I don’t know how Cena finally putting someone over is a dumb ending.
Mr. John “I’m looking for anyone trying to take my spot and then doing my best to bury their ass” Cena should be putting more people over at this late stage of his career. It’s called “giving back”.
I would. They can be stubborn about this stuff. Look how long it took to get rid of that awful spinner belt. In any event, for me even one belt with that design is too many, let alone 3. What happened to nice classic designs with globes and eagles? No let’s just make the belt a giant logo. It worked for IWGP, it doesn’t work any other time it’s tried. Stop it. Of course, knowing them they’ll probably have another version of it for the eventual Smackdown (LIVE!) tag belts and women’s belt…
And regarding Sasha, I’m going with the injury camp. She was clearly hurting there at the end of the match, and it didn’t look like she was just selling.
He dislocated his shoulder after being power bombed on the apron. He popped it back in and finished the match. A medical exam this afternoon showed a possible torn labrum so they have scheduled a surgical consult for this week.
IN OTHER NEWS:
Jericho and Brock got into it at gorilla after the Brock/Orton match last night. Jericho was unaware that the hard way blood was a work and was concerned for Orton’s well being. Jericho called it BS, Brock heard him, called him a pussy and shoved Jericho. Jericho did not back down. It took Triple HHH and Vince himself to separate the two. Triple HHH advised Vince that Brock started the incident.
Presumably we’ll get a tournament to crown a new champ at Clash of Champions, and maybe they can use that time to design a belt that isn’t awful (or just bring back the Big Gold Belt).
There you go, the way to get a push in WWE is wait until somebody’s injured.
Bailey has entered the prime time. Asuka should be holding the women’s belt for a few years. There’s nobody on her level left in NXT.
I smell a breakup of Enzo & Cass. Cass always comes to Enzo’s rescue and helps him get the pin, and Enzo’s always the one to look at the lights otherwise. Now they’re booking Cass solo.
“I like big sweaty men.” Really? You had your chance to shine in the national spotlight and you say something gay? Maybe it’ll work.
Nah, they’re not breaking up Enzo & Cass. As the smaller man with the big mouth, Enzo is perfect to play the Face In Peril or be the heel you pay to see get his ass beat. If they were seriously looking at breaking them up, Enzo wouldn’t have been out there doing the promos.
That and I seriously fucking hate this shit. Every goddamned time we get a new tag team, people have to start talking about breaking them up. Stop it.
Nah, Cass is getting a look. They’ve already tested him solo when Enzo was out, they’ve tested him with Enzo, and he’s been able to stand up to the stress and likely not shown any huge ego in the process. So they’re just floating him in the title picture for the same reason you had Sami Zayn and Neville in the first round - it is at least plausible to most fans that they’d be in a tourney like this, and get knocked out in the first round. He isn’t winning the title. It’ll be Rollins or Reigns, though I’d prefer they give Owens a good run. It’d be entertaining.
So in what way did Brock go off script? I do agree with this going taking banned substances, his low number of appearances and apparently starting backroom brawls he’s probably served his useful role. Early in the Brock return, up through his match with Reigns at WM, I thought he was a decent attraction, but it’s just stale now and I think unfair to the other performers he even exists in WWE.
My reflection on the PPV is that I’m seeing more and more evidence WWE needs to enforce some style changes on its performers–way too many guys hurting other guys, and guys hurting themselves. Wrestling has always been a dangerous form of providing entertainment, but this is just getting absurd.
If you didn’t see it fire up the Network and hunt down tonight’s Smackdown post show (Talking Smack? Smack Talkin’?). Whatever it’s called. Daniel Bryan said The Miz wrestles like a coward and The Miz cut the promo of his life. I don’t know if it will lead anywhere but I hope it does. Miz finally showed real passion and personality.
And now, with the introduction of the SmackDown Women’s Title, we’ve got four belts that look the same. And the SmackDown Tag Team Title looks much like the RAW version.
Jeez, all I ask for is a little originality with the belt design! And better names, too.
Work or shoot? I think it might have ended as a work, but there were some shoot elements in it. Indies will generally see themselves as better than WWE talent, but they don’t always understand the different circumstances, that they have more leeway in house shows than WWE talent has on TV. DB said Indies defined a “soft WWE style” that he thinks Miz embodies, but Miz at least hasn’t been injured and won’t have to end his career early because he damaged his body beyond repair. That was kind of a low blow on Miz’s part, and I think he realized it, but he managed to transition it into the standard egomaniacal heel template to make it look like a work. He clearly didn’t want to upset Renee.
I just might have to binge watch the rest of these shows.
I would hate for DB to upset one of the best things WWE has going for it.
I’m totally serious about this too.
The Miz is more than a model employee for the WWE. He’s an absolutely perfect heel, gives great promos 100% of the time, you just want to punch him in the face when you see him, and is an invaluable cog in the PR machine. His appearances and social acumen are great.
I would love for this to be a bit of a shoot angle which leads to a Cesaro-for-Miz trade though…
I agree. Miz is a huge positive value to the company. Does everything he’s asked, is a great interview and a great heel. The last thing I’d want to see come out of this would be him wrestling a more aggressive style and then being seriously injured.
Oh, and here’s what I would love to see with Slater and Rhino.
I want them to win the whole thing. Go completely nuts with it. Let Slater be Slater and extremely over the top in celebrating.
I also want Rhino to win his election. Oh, I have no idea of his politics or the polls, but for the purposes of this scenario, I want him to win.
So they win the tournament, they become tag champs, they hold them until November, and then in the middle of some epic delusional ego rant from Slater, Rhino announces that he won his election and has to leave WWE. Then he shakes a stunned Slater’s hand, hands him the other belt, and walks off. Leaving Slater in the middle of the ring stunned into silence, holding both belts and slowly realizing he no longer has a partner.
I was just about to ask everyone’s thoughts on the Slater/Rhyno pairing.
I am slightly confused by it because I think it would make sense if this was happening in, say, late September or so because it would leave the out for the election.
But happening this early? I don’t know where they’re gonna go with it.
My favorite Heath moment was on an episode of the JBL and Cole show. They had Heath play the part of JBL’s long-lost nephew hoping to reunite with his estranged uncle. He wore the same kind of cowboy hat. At the show’s very end, JBL and Cole are signing off, when Heath jumps right in front of them and says “Uncle Johnny! Ah found yew at last!” and then hugs him. The camera freezes the expression on JBL’s face, which is priceless. He really looked genuinely surprised and totally repulsed.
