Any WWE fans in the audience? (Part 1)

Ric Flair not doing so hot

It’s kind of amazing he’s lasted this long given his hard-partyin ways. Although I have to ask, because I honestly don’t know, he was never a steroid guy right?

He was heavy into steroids early in his career. He was carrying a lot more muscle and had that steroid look. After surviving a plane crash in 1974 he slimmed down to the look more familiar to most people. His style changed from a brawler to the more athletic wrestling that used speed and some acrobatics. I don’t know what kind of PEDs he might have used from then on but he was definitely drinking heavily and taking recreational drugs for most of his career.

Yeah, steroids, cocaine and metric tons of alcohol are not conducive to longevity. Add in a wrestling career with its bumps, injuries and concussions and he’s lucky to have lived this long.

It would be probably easier to name wrestlers of that era who didn’t use steroids. Even those whom one doesn’t think of having a “steroid body” often used.

Some were also addicted to painkillers. That’s what killed Test(Andrew Martin). Tyson Tomko robbed a CVS for oxycodone.

An above-average RAW yesterday IMO, and one that almost filled out the Summerslam card. Although the opening segment was ruined for me because Ms. Cups wasn’t actually watching the show, she was making dinner, and said “You know, this entire conversation sounds like a breakup argument between these guys”, and I’ll be damned if it didn’t sound exactly like that.

A lot of the podcasts I listen to absolutely hate when they give away PPV matches on free TV like they did with Bray and Finn, but I disagree. I think it’s good marketing to tease the match out for free, but save the REAL battle for the PPV. Hopefully the return of The Demon makes it worthwhile.

I think these Summerslam matches will likely suck:

Big Cass vs Big Show - Show’s hand is all hurt, and he’s going to be crying. Enzo in a cage just makes him more prominent, and I want to see much less of him.

Randy Orton vs Rusev - Zero heat. Maybe if Lana gets involved, it could rise to the level of mild interest.

The Usos vs The New Day - ND looks stupid when three of them can’t beat up two Usos. At least they don’t use the fucking trombone any more, but it could make a comeback and make the match suck more.
*
Maybe won’t suck, but not too excited about it either:*

The Hardy Boyz vs. Karl Anderson & Luke Gallows - MAKE THEM BROKEN ALREADY! DELETE DELETE DELETE! DO SOMETHING!

Naomi vs Natalya - watching Natty wrestle is like watching somebody’s mom insisting on playing with her kids who clearly don’t want her around. Naomi’s green hair in black light looks pretty cool, so I’ll at least watch the entrance, but maybe not so much the match.

Neville vs. Akira Tozawa - OK, they’re both really good, but Titus O’Neill just sucks away heat. He’ll probably cause Akira to lose the title somehow and it will look lame.

Jinder Mahal vs. Shinsuke Nakamura - Jinder’s pretty good, but he’s clearly not on Nakamura’s level. The Singhs will interfere and get Kinshasa’ed for a few laughs, but Jinder’s finisher just doesn’t look that exciting.

Could be good but could also be meh:

John Cena vs Baron Corbin - Corbin just doesn’t look all that mean and scary to me. He looks like he’s still 12. Cena’s been putting other guys over lately, but he’s clearly beaten better men than Corbin. I don’t doubt they’ll put on a good match, but it won’t have that oomph.

Finn Balor vs. Bray Wyatt - the Demon will undoubtedly be back, and Finn’s entrance will look cool. Bray is too much of the family-friendly Scooby Doo level of horror these days - nothing really shocking. Red syrup? Really? If they allow some kind of actual blood-letting that gets near the LU level, that could be something to stir WWE out of mediocrity, but they’re likely going to show more bugs or something.

Cesaro & Shamus vs Rollins and Ambrose - Could the magic of the SHIELD be recaptured? There will no doubt be more reluctant partnership on behalf of the faces, and both guys could benefit since their solo careers have more or less stalled. I just hope they book this right.

Miz vs Jason Jordan - Miz will do his part, but Jordan’s angle is just so After School Special. He’ll pull off some terrific moves, but he just deserves to be victimized by Miz for being so smarmy.

Geez, that’s a lot of freaking matches and you didn’t even mention the main event. I gotta figure a couple of those get cut for time.

If it were my choice, I’d cut the following;

Orton v Rusev. Too last minute, zero heat, nothing going here. Save it for Tuesday.

Big Cass v Big Show. Use it for the Raw main event. Show loses, Enzo gets out and makes a bunch of noise, the frustrated Big Show ko punches Enzo to deafening cheers.

Otherwise, Predictions;

Miz and the Miztourage smack Jordan around until Gable and Angle come in to make the save.

You know what I’d love to see then? Stephanie and Trips come out and threaten to fire Angle. Angle wants to wrestle Trips for his job. Trips laughs and says the only way you’ll get a match is if that pipsqueak Chad Gable can beat me at No Mercy. Gable then eeks out a win with the help of Jordan at No Mercy. Trips then demands a match against Jordan at TLC to teach him a lesson, weaselling out of a match with Angle unless Jordan wins. He beats the holy fuck out of Jordan, but Gable and Angle interfere, lay out Trips and drag Jordan across him for the win. Big Angle-Trips match at Survivor Series. Hell, even make it Career against Career, no DQ match. Word it so only the winner of the match can keep wrestling. Then in the actual match, when they’ve both beat each other down, Jordan and Gable come out, attack both of of them (no DQ) and force both of them to be counted out. No winner. Neither of them can ever wrestle again.

Then Jordan explains that he didn’t want his father to risk his health by wrestling any longer.

I’m actually looking forward to the rest of them and couldn’t think of anything bad to say about them.

OMFG!!!

Corbin tried to cash in on Mahal. Cena distracted him immediately and Jinder Mahal rolled him up for the win. Corbin has lost his opportunity!

Ugh, that was absolutely awful. Buried Jinder Mahal and Baron Corbin at the same time. Somebody do Vince a favor, take him out back, and Ol’ Yeller him.

If what happened to Sandow after he cashed in and lost, Corbin’s push is over for good and soon he’ll be wrestling Curt Hawkins on Main Event every week.

Yeah, Vince doesn’t exactly have a great track record with these people he calls up from NXT, does he. Just about every single one that people said were called up too early have seen their careers suffer for it.

He should stop calling up people from NXT and allow Trips to tell HIM when people are ready.

Someone has to wrestle Curt Hawkins, just so he can keep his Long Island, NY wrestling school going. If he loses this job, he might not be able to put on his show next month. He’s even bringing in Hornswoggle! That’s big money, right there.

The thing is though is that Corbin was perfectly ready for his callup, he was just screwed up (somehow…amazingly) when he got called up.

People hated Corbin, they hated him in NXT, which means he’s PERFECT for a heel. He played his heel role extremely well too, AND has a great finisher AND he can actually wrestle. Yet, somehow, amazingly, he got booked like crap and will soon be the GFW champ in, like, 5 years.

Dude, they’re ALL booked for shit. Dean Ambrose said this is the most talented roster and over at Cageside, pretty much everyone agreed with him and laid all of the problems and perception straight at BOOKING. Which basically means Vince McMahon, since he has the final say on everything and sets the tone.

As I said, Vince keeps cranking out shit about the glory days of the Attitude Era while ignoring the bounty he has today. He’s not booking them like Superstars, he’s not booking them like stars. No one is allowed to get over anymore unless he wants them to, which from a corporate profit/shareholder perspective is gross incompetence at the top of the organization. You watch those AE docos and you’ll see people saying that when someone got hot, they ran with it. Now when someone Vince doesn’t see as a star gets over naturally, they smother the fire and shit all over them.

That’s been the case pretty much since the end of the Attitude Era (and happened before and occasionally during - anyone here remember the Red Rooster?). It’s not enough to get over with the fans. One has to get over with the fans despite being booked to fail. Even when they do, one might still find oneself on the losing end of an 18 second match on Wrestlemania.

About the only (slight) positive about Corbin’s burial is that it might make some overlook that Mahal was buried not 3 minutes earlier. I don’t blame Cena - he’s just McMahon’s favorite tool (no pun intended - unless you don’t like Cena, then feel free to snicker).

Also, while I understand why they advertised it, does anyone else think the SummerSlam impact would have been larger simply if Finn Balor came out in his demon persona with very little to no foreshadowing?

There’s still the SS match between Cena & Corbin. Since Cena’s rumored to be moving to RAM, maybe Corbin will get a decisive victory. If Nakamura beats Mahal for the belt, Corbin would be set up for #1 contender spot.

So, Fashion Peaks ends with Breezango finding a slip of paper in a pie with “TWOB” written on it.

Urban dictionary says it’s short for “Twitter Snob.” It could also stand for “Total Waste of Bandwidth.”

Could be Buddy Murphy and Wesley Blake. That’s 2 B’s. They haven’t been used in forever and they’re still employed.

“To be continued…”

I thought that was semi-obvious by the way it ended.
