Any WWE fans in the audience? (Part 1)

Hee hee he doesn’t have pale skin and red hair, so I don’t think they’re using a homophone. Sometimes they get to keep their names.

They’ve only got two, Tian Bing and Xia Li listed on the NXT roster right now, so perhaps they were having some try-outs or something?

It’s either that or maybe I’m super racist and should have said “Asian” versus Chinese. The two that wrestled on Saturday was a dude named “Mars” (who they literally said was making his in-ring debut and was billed from China) and another one named “Rocky” (don’t remember where he was billed from). Outside of the ring, however, they had at least 2 working as security guards and I’ve seen others as guards before who weren’t those two.

Although I guess while I’m on the subject…

Saw a new guy named “Brandon Williams”. He’s a pretty big, black, dreaded dude who honestly looked like the lead singer of Sevendust or Living Colour. He wrestled with an even bigger dude who I think was Samoan. I didn’t catch his name cuz the audio in that gym sucks. They faced Tito Sabatelli and [del]The Stay-Puft Marshmallow Man[/del] Riddick Moss. Facing the aforementioned Rocky was a guy named Chad Layla (I think) Never seen him before either. Danny Birch was there facing a new guy who’s name I couldn’t catch and last-but-not-least it looks like Blake landed on his feet OK because he’s in a tag-team called “The Forgotten Sons” with Steve Cutler.

Is this him? (on the left, next to Booker T)

I can’t say for sure, but all evidence points to it being him. I remember thinking his proportions were kinda off because he had wide hips and a thicker lower body, which makes sense if he’s a former lineman. Plus the shitty acoustics could easily confuse Brennan with Brandon or Brendan. The thing I remember most is he had the stupidest gimmick. He (and his partner) would constantly say their opponents “NEED. MORE. POWER!” Boy did THAT get old fast…

Ok, I found it. The NXT roster page only lists the two above, but were they these folks?

So, WWE just announced a 50-man Royal Rumble.

In April.

In Saudi Arabia.

I think Vince has finally lost his mind.

romanwinslol

That’s an old picture cuz Ho-Ho Lun is there and he’s definitely gone, but yeah I see the 2 on the far left (in front of Lun and his Douchey hair) a bunch and the second from the right (The big one) is working security all the time.

is the wwe network online only ? I see it on my xbox 360 and one… I was thinking doing a trial around wm for my nephew whos about 8 and I want him so see the older stuff too (well ok most of it anyways)

Yes. It’s not on actual TV (except in Canada). You can watch it through your website browser, game consoles, Android/iPhone apps, or on Roku.

In other news, we now have a date and a venue for All In, Cody Rhodes’ indy supershow; September 1st at the Sears Centre Arena in Hoffman Estates, IL, on the edge of Chicagoland. The arena seats 11,000 and Cody is looking to sell it out, which, if he’s successful, would be the first time since the end of the Monday Night Wars that a non-WWE show has sold more 10,000 seats in the US.

No info yet on ticket prices or when it goes on sale, but I may have to consider flying out for this one if I can afford to.

Right in my backyard. I’ll have to seriously consider getting tickets.

I don’t really know what it proves.

I understand it’s all to win a bet between Cody and Davey “The Meltz” Meltzer, but all it tells me is that wrestling fans will shell out to a once-in-a-lifetime supercard.

Make this a regular thing and then we’ll talk.

Good news for the Barkis household!

Nak and Rusev just made a match for Fastlane. Should be a good one and I’m happy for ya

Excellent news! And thanks for posting the update because I did not catch Smackdown last night. Actually, I almost never catch Raw or Smackdown and it really sucks they don’t go on the Network for a month. I know they’re on Hulu, but I don’t yet subscribe to that.

So they are putting together half the card of a “PPV” (or whatever they call the event shows now*, because almost no one actually does PPV) on the Smackdown before the show, and we, the audience is supposed to care? I really, truly, deeply hate the lack of even medium-turn storytelling, and that is ALL McMahon’s/Dunn’s fault.

*Smackdown Exclusive Event

So a whole bunch of matches were set up at the last minute, all of which will either be moved to the pre-show, cancelled or given 30 seconds. Yay, I suppose.

They definitely need another term for these events. They’re not really “Pay Per Views” anymore. I don’t think “Super Show” would be the right term either.

It does look like they half-assed the card for Fast Lane, because ROAD TO WRESTLEMANIA. At least the icon of AJ doing the air punch looks cool.

Since they kinda built Shinsuke vs AJ at WM, it stands to reason both would win their matches at FL.

Unless of course, they have Cena win so he can break Flair’s record. Otherwise, they’ll have him do sob story promos about how he’ll miss WM until UT “comes out of retirement” or something.

I’d rather watch Takeover anyway.

Well, the real question is how long he’s going to wrestle. He’s only 40. He keeps talking about wanting to stick around. So if he goes another 5-10 years as a part-timer, for example, does he then go on to get another 2-5 championship reigns, or does he only get the one to beat Flair?

Unfortunately, same issue with Orton. He’s 13 time champ. He’s only 37 and there’s no fucking way they’re letting him tie or beat Flair, so at most, what, one or two championship runs left in however long he keeps wrestling? Unfortunately, I find the man to be incredibly boring and non-inspiring. His feuds with Jinder Mahal and Bray Wyatt did nothing for either man. He’s coasting in a prime spot with no upside.

Both top guys, both getting older but still in prime wrestling age, both with too many title runs to get more than one or two more at most over the remainder of their career.

One guy (Cena) capable of putting some (but not all) people over, the other (Orton) non-performing in that role.
