Anybody playing Draw Something?

I’ve only had Katniss, but that was really hard. I think Sach was supposed to guess it, but hadn’t read the books.

I had about 10 plays waiting on me last night. 3 of them were the same word.

Got a stylus last night from Best Buy. Hopefully it will help my (sometimes) suck-ass drawings.

By the way, here is a neat video from Mike Matei, where he talks about Draw Something. What’s neat is that it shows him drawing amazing things with it.

Did you know you can run low on ink?

No biggie. I upgraded last night, but after I had played that round.

That’s happened to me before. One time I noticed before I sent it, the other time I didn’t.

Wow, that’s impressive! Makes me want to go get a stylus and put some more effort into my drawings! I always worry that if I take too long my opponent will get bored watching me fiddle around, but I guess there’s always the “skip” button.

I had no idea you could run out of ink.

I’m guessing there’s a limit to the data block they’re able to send for whatever reason, and they have to send data about what people draw as they drew it, so at some point you run out of data allocaton to describe the drawing, hence running out of ink.

Yeah, but isn’t it interesting how different people choose to depict it? I play with one person who draws *everything *from a looking-down perspective. I imagine I aggravate people by WAY overdrawing, adding superfluous details first and then finally getting to the point, which, come to think of it, somewhat mimics the way I talk…

What happens if you comment and the other person hasn’t upgraded? They just don’t see it?

I came out of lurker status after discovering this game today. Though I used to post somewhat frequently way back.

I’ve been adding people from this thread and always looking for fellow players, please add me: mlawca

Fair warning: my artistic skills are quite lacking

My take on this game after a few weeks of playing:

  • The word base is annoying. The word list recycles quickly; I’ve drawn or seel “Eskimo”, “Firefly” and “Olympics” about 5 times each already (just to name a few). Words get concatenated, like “thankyou”. And some “words” I don’t even understand or recognize, though I guess that’s par for any game of this type.

  • Getting a stylus would be nice, as would having a larger drawing surface like an iPad, but I’m doing it on a smartphone with my finger and think the crude line drawings are part of the challenge (how to communicate the most with the minimum space/lines, versus a full color detailed illustration).

  • Two or three times, I’ve either had to give up on guessing the word, or watched my partner give up on guessing my word, because the right letters weren’t even there! I finally got an iPhone screencap of this, when my friend bailed on guessing my illustration of TECHNO because there was no H in his letter set.

All in all, a fun game but also easily a time sink given how long it takes to watch people solve a drawing and then to draw one yourself. Sure you can skip the watching step but it is part of the fun, to see how quickly or slowly they get it (if at all).

Yeah, that was me.
There is a certain amount of knowing what your partner knows and doesn’t know that helps. I’m sure the drawing was fine for whatever a katniss is, but there was no way I was going to get that one, like ever. You could have posted an actual picture of a katniss from the movie and I still wouldn’t guess it right

I’m sachert on DrawSomething. My full SDMB handle was already taken. Just no Hunger Games!

Mahaloth, I’ll update the app when I get home. Thanks for the note. I never know when I should be downloading updates.

yeah i once got Katniss too and drew a stick girl with a bow and arrow thinking about hamburger and fries. it didn’t work.

i think asynchronous games are the easiest time sinks to manage as far as games go, any other type of games would require greater time commitments. there is no time limit and you take your turn only when you want to. there isn’t anyone standing around waiting for you so that the raid can begin. the impatient can simply start more games and the busy can take however long they want to take their turn.

I had Katniss and drew a mockingjay pin (from a model; I certainly didn’t do it from memory) and they got it - it was one of my finer hours.

ETA - and as for “how they draw it”, everybody draws a sailboat the same. Trust me.

red house with a big door - barn.

bumping this as a heads-up that some of you who’ve posted your usernames here will be getting a new game from MEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!

ETA: I kept hitting “send” without adding a message, accidentally. Normally I try to introduce myself, or at least ID myself as a Doper.

Hope I’m one of them!

And Shijinn–nudge! I’m dying to see if you guess my latest–I was kind of proud of it.

One thing I’m really enjoying is that my drawing skills actually seem to be improving. I’m falling back on stick figures less and less. I drew a pretty badass parrot for Mahaloth, and I just did a solidish caveman for someone.

I have a couple games going with dopers right, always welcome more.

My drawing skills seem to be getting slightly better, mostly by being exposed to better artists! Meeplet is amazing; I wish I could do so well. They REALLY need more words though…I find myself identifying the word just by the available letters, before the drawing is barely started. And I am so tired of drawing the same easy and medium ones that I stretch for the hard ones, often with poor results… I will send you one, Purple, and if it goes through, will note that I am a Doper (not this username).

If you are reading this, Labtrash, sorry if Password was a little obscure. I’ve drawn it so much in a more conventional way that I was indulging myself with that one.

Ditto on the more words wish! If I have to draw one more hobo, I’m gonna scream! :stuck_out_tongue:

Weird, I haven’t even seen hobo yet!

I just drew am awesome Einstein! I wish I knew how to save these.

LegsAkimbo, it took a google on that guy but it worked.

I’m also learning a LOT about flags by playing this game
And Meeplet, you rock at this! Seriously!
