Anybody still playing World of Warcraft?

Is there a tentative timeframe for the exp pack? We’ve closed our subscription for now, but I’m considering re-upping when the pack comes out…

To my knowledge, Blizzard hasn’t announced even a tentative date yet. The game stores (both brick & mortar and online) are giving varying dates (ranging from May to October), but they don’t know any better than the average J’oh Water-stack does. They’re just touting for pre-orders.

I play dang near every day. I have several toons on Drenor. I play alliance most often in a pretty large guild that is good times.

Hit up Tyrchon or Nodonn on Draenor’s alliance side if you want to meet me in game.

Its an old thread, but thought I’d ask anyone still playing how they like the latest patch. I still have my subscription but I shut it down for a while…is it worth turning it back on to check out the changes? I don’t have a priest (and I think this was a major priest revision), but how about all the other stuff? Has anyone tried out the tweeked instances? I heard they shifted from 10 or even 15 man raids on some dungeons back to 5 man…and they supposedly have put in lots of new loot (or upped the drops anyway for the better stuff).

Also, supposedly there are a bunch of new quests for level 60’s for an armor set that you don’t have to spend long periods of time in instances to get…any thoughts on if its worth doing?

Dumb question: I’ve seen the term “rolled” in reference to characters a couple of times lately. Is this just a carryover of using the 20 side die to roll the attributes of a D&D character, or is there some element of chance in the attributes of a WoW character? IOTW, will two gnome priests both start out the same, or is there an element of chance?

Related dumb question: Are some characters faster than others, in terms of running along, than others? Why?

No, it’s just a carryover from polyhedral dice. All individuals in a character class start with the same attributes and gain the same amount of points in the same attributes as everyone else in that class at each level gain. Customization is done via gear (which increases various attributes depending on the particular piece) and talents, not by raw attributes. So yes, two gnome priests will start out the same. They’ll also remain the same in raw attribute numbers throughout the game, from lvl 1 to lvl 60. It’s the stuff they wear/carry and the talents they build up that differ.

And every character runs at the same base speed. The smaller races (gnomes and dwarves) LOOK like they move faster than the taller ones, but they don’t. Skills, travel abilities, some gear, and mounts change your speed. But the base speed is the same from toon to toon.

It is a refrence to that very thing.

Toons don’t really run faster than each other unless there is some gear that is making that possible. Boots or something for instance. Gnome priests are identical out of the box.

It might look like a Tauren is running slowly, but it is a factor of them being much bigger than other toons. They cover the same ground, just in bigger/slower strides.

In answer to the other question, I don’t know why you stopped playing so I can’t answer the question of whether you should pick it up again. I think that the changes are good. I ran an instance and it was doable. Less people = more loot each. They also upped the drop rates of the epics at that level. It’s a bit more challenging to run an instance with 5 instead of 10 people, and you won’t get into a group until you are 60 unless you are a support class. The rogues and such need to be 60.

The new level 60 quests are to upgrade the base armor sets that you can get in the instances such as Scholo and UBRS. They are do-able solo, but you need to have the origional armor set piece to upgrade them. I think they’re worth it if you don’t have end-game armor sets. They are a good bit better overall I think.

Ha! I just noticed that I said almost the exact same things as you did there. I started typing at the same time probably, but I’m slow. :smack:

Can short races jump as high as taller ones? My gnome seems to constantly get stuck behind obstacles or in pits in the terrain, and have to hearth out of there.

If you’re stuck, it’s a terrain glitch or bug. Contact a gm if you have time. Make sure you use the stuck option so they know to check yours as a priority.

I haven’t played regularly in about a year, but my account is still active. My main is a 40something pally on Silverhand, but I also had an undead mage in the Thunderhorn guild. I haven’t gotten around to respeccing my pally since the big overhaul in 1.09, any suggestions? I had previously been going with a big defensive build with a minor in healing.

I’ve got a 51 Undead rogue on Feathermoon. WoW has more-or-less taken the place of the SDMB in terms of how I spend my online time.

I had no interest in the game until a RL friend got me to play the 10-day free trial. Then I was hooked forever. I’ve still not forgiven him.

60 Alliance hunter on Scarlet Crusade. I only occasionally venture into the big instances like Zul Gurub but when I do it’s not hard to get in on a group, because I’m in a pretty big, well-organized guild. Lots of fun. Wish I didn’t have to sleep, or I’d play all night…

If anyone’s on Scarlet Crusade, contact Slang. She will give you agility potions and hugs.

That’s what I thought, but the other day I saw a dwarf from my guild, and he zoomed past me like I was standing still. I had heard someone comment once that level could affect speed, although I’ve not really seen that directly. I thought that Agility might. FWIW the other guy was a 25 dwarf hunter and mine was my 33 rogue. Could well have been he was just twinked with some boots of speed.

And, MDSL, you don’t type slower, it just seems that way.

Probably not. Hunters have an ability at lvl 15 (I think) called “Aspect of the Cheetah” that allows them a bonus to movement speed. The downside is that if he gets hit by anything when he has that Aspect up (even if it only does 1 damage), he’s Dazed.

Aspect of the Cheetah + boots of speed = massive twinkyfast Hunter. Bastards.

Massive twinkyfast hunter with a glass jaw, maybe. You could TRY to outrun a devilsaur with those bonuses, but all it needs is one lucky hit and you’re t-rex chow…

Hmm. I have a gnome warrior, level 54 atm, and have never gotten so stuck that I had to hearth out. Also have a 60 NE hunter, and I don’t notice any difference between the two characters as far as being stuck or getting hung up on terrain.

I have a level 60 Paladin and a level 40 mage on Sargeras. I quit playing for several months, then got back into it to a lesser degree (I play mainly on the weekends now).

The 60 Paladin I got bored with because in WoW, things can start getting tedious once you hit 60- especially if you aren’t in a guild. I had fun 5-manning Stratholme (undead side) in pickup groups, but knew I’d never have the time or interest to grind the rep/loot to get any further with that character. Don’t get me started on the prospect of getting my Paladin’s epic mount

I’m mainly using the mage right now, because it still has a ways to go before being maxed out. I PvP a lot, and enjoy using a rather underrated mage spec (Most mages seem to concentrate on arcane/fire for raw damage, but I’m putting most of my talent points in ice). Leveling is pretty quick since I AoE farm (use area of effect spells to blast multiple enemies at a time to gain xp) and my guild is a low-end guild which means repeatedly running Scarlet Monastarey/Uldaman for phat lewt is not a problem

When that gets boring, there’s always Battlegrounds, which are very fun as a mage. Of course putting myself in the ‘casting’ animation is like holding a big sign that says, “ROGUES PLEASE STAB ME NOW”

Incubus, did you see one of the changes they made in 1.10? Lvl 60+ toons get GOLD instead of XP for doing quests. It should hold the uberlevels over until Burning Crusade adds that extra 10 levels, anyway.
