Anybody up for a holiday round of Haggle?

IF you want to do it offboard, I can talk to Idle for you about using the mafia boards for it. I am 90% certain that he would be happy to have the game there (and might even want to play)

Just what do you mean by plans? Obviously, there’s a lot of the planning that has to remain secret from all potential players.

And there was Mod hesitancy to have too many game threads simulatneously last time I checked… is there any reason to believe that’s changed? Maybe I’d better just go and ask a mod.

Was fussing about the right way to add this and missed the edit window.

USCDiver, I do totally understand if you’re frustrated about the way things went down last time. Rules 16-18 taken together were sort of big enough to unbalance the game, and the fact that the difficulty and payoff varied based on something as individual as usernames was poorly chosen in retrospect. I’m doing my best to learn from that mistake, walking the fine line between ‘balanced’ and ‘interesting’ for the second set of rules. Does that happen to reassure you at all?

Yes, it does…when do we start?

I just sent off a PM to a mod, who’s hopefully the right mod, ‘in charge’ of game threads now. Response to that will dictate timing.

As a general rule of thumb, I’m okay with waiting to run it on here if we’ll have to wait less than three weeks or so. Otherwise, I guess we talk to Idle about ‘the mafia boards.’

And we’ve got a greenlight to start when we want - it looks like new policy might be ‘one game of each type at a time’ or something like that, and there’s no other game being talked about that’s the Haggle type.

I’ll send out confirmation emails this afternoon once I get home from work. Looks like we should still be able to get a blitz round, one week more or less, in before sinjin is off on his (or her) holidays!

Chrisk, can I get my confirm as a PM? It’s a pain to check my email from work and I will be on the dope setting up the new mafia game most of the day.

Sorry, all confirms will be PMs. (Unless there’s an issue with that.) I mistyped.

I’m gonna pass this round. Sorry guys. I’ll follow along though and if someone needs a sub, let me know.

Understood, and thanks for letting us know so promptly.

PMs have been sent - FarmerChick, you have not enabled PMs in your options screen. Do you need further info on how to do this?

Also, because this ruling caused some problems last time, anybody object to a ruling that all rule slips can be COPIED reliably this time, and that this is the default treatment of rules in a trade?
That is, if A trades a copy of rule 15 to B for two electrum pieces, then both B and A can further trade the rule.

I think that is fair. But we can still request non copied rules, we just have to say so?

Yep. Of course, this doesn’t directly benefit either party to the trade.

I don’t know, that kind of leverage might be nice with certain rules.

Umm, what are you guys talking about?

Ohh, this is gonna be fun!

shhh, you’ll find out.

Okay, very briefly, in case you haven’t figured this out, we’re talking about rules trading in the game. No player starts with complete knowledge of the scoring rules, and horse-trading up enough of that information to plan your strategy for trading in ‘counters’ that have actual value is one of the key themes of the game.

Last time, I said that rules could only be traded with the fixed number of rule slips that were in the game at the start - if NAF traded you a ‘look’ at rule 7, you know it, but can’t trade it to somebody else because it’s just a notation in your private notebook and nobody else can see that. If he actually handed you the rule slip, then he still remembers what was on it, but he can’t trade it anymore.

This time, you and NAF will normally go over to the photocopier and get a copy of rule 7, which is considered to be hard info and can be traded as such. (And it will be enforced, so any attempt to trade away fake copies of the rules can be considered grounds for ejection and foreclosure.)

Now, in terms of WHY NAF might choose to still insist on trading you only a look at that rule, instead of a copy - that I’ll keep quiet on for now.

Still waiting on confirms from…

and any word from FarmerChick

Knowing** NAF**, I can think of 17 reasons why. 14 of them are game related.
