Just some notes for those who haven’t signed up yet.

  1. Usernames must be 6+ symbols. So that means The Obvious One for me is a no go. Drat. Yeah, I know about warspammers, but sheesh, I still wanted it.

  2. It’s very picky about what browser you use and it’s settings. So none of the browsers on my #2 machine I first tried it on would work. Opera (regardless of Identify setting), Old Netscape, MSIE with activeX turned off (and I’m not turning that on), etc. So I only use it with Mozilla/Firefox for now.

  3. Contrary to Slashdot and other sites, no problem with email to/from hotmail, etc. Except test email from my ISP to gmail takes 18+ hours. Wow.

  4. This is one Helluva social experiment Google is pulling. As a CompSci guy, I’m really curious what sort of useful data they’re going to have on their hands doling out accounts this way?

Hey, alterego! Thanks again. A friend at work noticed me checking my Gmail account and asked about it, so if you’ve got an extra one, I can send it to him. (It sounds like if you send it to me, I can forward it, right?) By all means, take care of Dopers first, though. And then after you send me the extra . . . erm . . . maybe don’t send any more. We seem to be overwhelming the server (unless their being DOM attacked like Yahoo!). I can’t seem to get on at all tonight. Anyone else having problems?

Man! I usually don’t correct my own typos, but ones like that really bug me. Stupid homophones!

Today at work I sent out a bunch of letters in my own name (unusual) and then realized that I’d used “which” with a restrictive clause. Would you send money to a school that did that in a fundraising letter? :smack:
