Anybody want to fast with me?

A couple of the members of Muslim Student Association approached me on my way to class today and made a deal with me. If I go from 5:30 am to 5:30 pm on November 13th without eating, drinking and possibly smoking they’ll get some of the local businesses to donate money to the Love Kitchen and they’ll feed me some authentic Middle Eastern food at the end of the day.

Well, the deal wasn’t only for me. It’s part of the MSA’s campaign to raise awareness of the hunger problem. I think their goal is to get 1500 people to sign up for it.

I think it’s for a great cause, but I’m also curious as to whether or not I can do it. I’ve gone through an entire day without food before. The stomach growls a little, but I’m fine. I might even be able to do the not drinking. The lack of smoking might get to me though.

So any Dopers want to fast with me? Maybe a few Knoxville Dopers out there?

The hunger problem. What hunger problem where? Raise a little awareness for us non-participants from other areas.

I really don’t see how making people wait all day looking forward to a big meal really helps them identify with any hunger problem besides their own. It’s quite another thing to go all day without eating because you don’t know where your next meal is coming from, and haven’t known that for a couple days.

Short of people getting to the end of the day and going “Well, that wasn’t so bad… what are all those kids in Ethiopa whining about?”, I figure every little bit helps.
