I might get laid off tomorrow. It kind of snuck up on me, probably because I have been trying not to think about it, but I was reminded tonight, everybody is worrying. Our company sent out notification last week that they were laying off 20% of the employees tomorrow.

The timing on this sucks as I had just signed a 12-month lease on a house that I can barely afford as is - actually, if my wife wasn’t getting checks from my aunt to help her go to school and if my parents weren’t going to be moving in with us and helping on the rent, I couldn’t. So, in case I’m out of work tomorrow, would anybody in the DFW area like to hire me? I’ve got nearly six years of experience in tech support, from OEM on PCs to leased lines and routers, but I’d also be happy to do pretty much anything else that doesn’t require much physical exertion - I’d make a great bodyguard, masseur, porn star, or fool. I need to be able to make about $2000 a month to get by.

bdgr is full of usefulness tonight. First he gets the ISP address, e-mail and IP number of the site that stole files from me. And now he’s getting Badtz Maru hired. :slight_smile:

I just got some news that might be good - it seems a large number of people in another department received notification from HR that they had to be at work at 10 AM tomorrow, but other people in my department and myself have received no such notification…of course, it could be that those who were told to come in may have been told to so they could begin training them to do my department’s job, and that those who weren’t told will get a phone call - just the other day we were all told to provide a current home phone number.

Damn, the suspense is killing me, and I wasn’t feeling so good tonight anyway, the only reason I came in despite feeling so ill is that I’ve been on extra-good behavior lately because of the scare.

Well, I dodged that bullet. I still have my job. Over 600 people don’t. I almost wish I got laid off, people were getting 5 to 8 months of severance pay.
