Anybody want to hire a geek?

I got laid off on Tuesday, so I no longer have carte blanche to surf the web and track the SDMB for eight hours a day. Anybody in the Twin Cities looking to hire a Windows-oriented system admin, software rollout coordinator, tech support, help desk, word-processing, paper-pushing computer geek?

Could anyone use one in the Detroit area.

Skills include almost all software knowledge, and EDGAR knowledge.

Currently hired but always looking for a better deal.

This is depressing. People with years of experience are being laid off just as I’m trying to get into the job market. :frowning:

Don’t worry, BlackKnight. Part of my severance package was a waiver of my rights to sue them for firing me on account of I’m too old. They listed the ages of all the people they fired, and, with the exception of 1 person, they fired everybody over the age of 32. So you’re probably okay, for a few years.

Maybe…

My bosses job is open. We are trying to fill in internally. Which will likely (although not certainly) mean one of us server admins. Which will mean we will likely fill a server admin - probably internally through our own desktop staff. Which then means we will start looking for a desktop person. Which means that we may find someone internal or may go external. I’ll drop you an email when (if) the job gets posted if you are interested.

Yet another Sys Admin here, laid off last month. By fluke a few weeks ago I found a contract setting up a satellite office for a small company, so I’m now an independant contractor. Kinda neat working with a small office again after working in a server room and a 6000+ user network. It’s a whole new way of thinking…

Last week I had an interview for a gov’ment Sys Admin position I applied for in March (!). This was the second interview, with the first being a 2 hour technical test. Anyways, from the original 400 resumes they received, they selected 40 to write the test. From that 40 only 13 people passed (including myself), and from that 13 only 4 people passed the second interview (again, myself included). That bad part is that there was only 2 positions, and I came in 4th in the interview so unless #1 and #2 don’t take the positions I’m out of luck.

I’ve sent an email asking the HR people if the fact that I’m not an MCSE dropped my rank any. I hope not, as I made a decision to not line MS’s pocket any more by writing those tests. However, after talking with IT headhunters I now realize that almost all contracts require a MCSE even if you have all the experience and skills needed.

Possibly. I just started a new QA job in downtown Mpls on Wednesday, and the company is growing like a weed. I’ll check on what positions are open or will be open and get back to you.

Dangerosa, lno, thanks! That’s the best and brightest news I’ve gotten all week.
