Some time in the preseason, a critic said this was a show to watch. He was right. I use the recorder to time-shift this one, and it is well worth it. Christina Applegate is hysterical.
We had threads about the first couple of episodes, but talk dropped off after that. Too much competition front the Heroes and Amazing Race threads, I guess.
I like it pretty well.
I like the show too, but it’s not a show I feel the need to discuss.
Other than Christina Applegate is the hwat.
And funny.
Oh and Jean Smart is funny and too.
I meant to, but it conflicted with something else that I record. I do like Christina Applegate though.
I watched it a couple of times and don’t like it enough to go out of my way for. I adore Christina Applegate, but it feels repetitive to me already and it’s barely out of the gate. How are they going to prolong the premise? She was bitchy, now she’s not. I don’t get how hilarity can ensure forever.
I think I would have preferred this as a movie.
The one time I watched it, I enjoyed it. It was the episode about Samantha being a virgin again.
I have a few questions, though. Does Samantha work now? How did she lose her memory? Did she break up with her boyfriend before or after the memory loss? How long ago did she lose her memory?
It’s weird. I hadn’t even heard of this show and but another Cafe Society thread was posted about it just 5 days ago:
Samantha Who. I really like this show! - Enright3
which got me to watch the first episode. It was ok, I guess. At least it’s far enough away from Married with Children they didn’t have to make such a point about her character not being a dumb blond. I remember the first scene in her last sitcom, “Jesse”, had her helping her son with geography homework and had her pull the capital of Paraguay from the top of her head. Tres obvious.
**
Biggirl**, I don’t know about work but in the first episode she was just coming out of an 8 day coma following a car accident, waking up with memory loss. She had broken up with the boyfriend just before the accident, I believe.
CarnalK has it right. As for the other question, she does work. I think the first episode had a scene with her in the conference room. It was pretty funny, but I can’t remember the particulars. I guess that’s why there’s not a lot of CS about this show. It’s good, but goodness is the enemy of greatness, as they say, and we’ve had some great shows to discuss.
I’m looking forward to the episode with the Daleks.
I watched the first episode only because my SO did.
It was painful. Every joke was the same “Oh, my, that girl I used to be was a creep”
Oh, once it was “Oh, my, that girl I used to be was okay once, instead of her usually creep”
I really enjoy this show. It has a very gentle, understated sense of humor. The jokes, or just oddball comments, seem to float by instead of hitting you in the face like a waterballoon.
Like last night, they were listing the problems that hypnosis could cure and one of them was “fear of dinosaurs.”
Much of the humor lies in watching Applegate flounder instead of hearing her spout one-liners. I look forward to it every week.
Yes, she’s a VP in some sort of real estate firm. When she came back, she told them she was in rehab, not an amnesiac.
Maybe. It seems like they were on again/off again, love/hate type relationship. I would guess they broke up a lot - and were, at the time of the accident, technically not together.
At the beginning of the season, so “recently.”
The episode where she was the stalker was hilarious. Last night’s, less so, but it’s pretty consistently ok-to-good.
On the other hand, having grown up with Ms. Applegate via Married With Children, the girl playing “Teenaged Samantha” in the stalker episode was pretty unconvincing
Thanks guys.
Can’t believe I missed that. Either I didn’t check CS that day or it rapidly disappeared from page 1.
Tuvok does a pretty good job too. His bits are the funniest to me.
