I like how you’re using the word ‘accusation’, as if you’re still taking it personally. If requesting a simple courtesy update really isn’t too much to ask, why are you posting here instead of here? Unless you really feel you will not receive an answer. If so, why did you even post in the Pit at all then.
I can buy “pissed off” but please tell me you are not surprised or disappointed for that would be a triumph of hope over reason. This is all par for the course. These people can barely touch the tip of their noses without biting their tongues, give them a break.
Because I and others have been asking in other threads in ATMB. That is the frustrating part. If I posted in frustration in ATMB I may or may not have been eligible for suspension as per **Ed Zotti **or did you miss that little episode a few weeks ago? The pit is the proper place to post frustration about the board, not ATMB. Maybe you did not mean for your post to just look glib and snarky but it sure did read that way. I really like this board, I spend a lot of time here, (probably too much) and read almost every ATMB thread. Our questions on what is going on have not been getting answered. The Mods and Admins don’t have anything more to tell us thus my frustration that Jerry or Ed have not given a simple update, even if it is to tell us that it will be weeks or that we need to wait until the Chapter 11 is resolved. I don’t think many would be happy, but we would at least leave them the hell alone.
BTW: Tags can be turned on or off by the non-techies. They could throw us a small bone and turn that back on.
Emotional investment in this board, desire to know the outcome of minor board details, and faith in the forebearance of your fellow posters. These are all things you possess that I don’t.
We all know that the Reader has never prioritized the Dope in terms of resources. It just wouldn’t be politic for Ed to emphasize it by repeating over and over that “Jerry’s busy on other projects”. Unless Jerry’s won the lottery or died suddenly, you know that’s the answer.
Demanding updates is just asking to a) be told what you already know, or b) have some bullshit shovelled your way.
Eh, I’m not counting on anything happening real soon, although I do wish they’d put the Charter back in my status. Yeah, I know, it’s not real big on the list of fix-it priorities, but dammit, I paid a whole $7.95 for that privilege back in April! I’ll pay again next year, if only they put my Charter status back!
I’m not pissed, I’m still able to communicate via the board, so there’s that at least.
Have you ever known the phrase “restructuring debt” to mean anything good? Given that filing for bankruptcy is a legal process, and that we are neither stakeholders nor employees of Creative Loafing, I strongly suspect that the staff here have been instructed not to make pronouncements on the state and future, if any, of Creative Loafing’s assets.
Upgrade, schmupgrade–I just noticed they got rid of the inconsistently-appearing blue line between posts. I can now die a happy man. Well, happier. Okay, it really didn’t matter too much but I’ve been looking for a venue for this comment. Was there really supposed to be an upgrade? Huh.
What bothers me is that we seem to have had a downgrade. I was used to the way the board functioned before; I didn’t need it to be perfect. But as I said in ATMB recently, the 200-post display is sub-par performance. ISTR that the first word on it was “We know it’s annoying, but it certainly won’t be permanent, so just be patient.” Like it was a serious glitch and would be the first to be fixed. Now it looks as if we’re just supposed to say “Oh well…”
My dad used to pull this shit: take something apart, like the showerhead, or the flooring in a room, to “fix” it, and leaving it that way for a year or more. Eventually you get used to it: you learn to take baths in cold water, and step around the hole in the floor. Thing is, though, it looks bad when people come to visit.
Did anyone know the upgrade was going to be so difficult? If so, I could easily have done without, rather than have Jerry start something he couldn’t finish.
Oh well…
Things aren’t sounding very good.
My rant in one sentence: If Ed can fix a ramshackle house in Chicago, he can learn the inner workings of vBulletin, MySQL and Linux server configuration and fix this place.
Ed, if you’re reading this, I know you have the smarts to complete the upgrades and tweak the server. Why not give it a shot? Many far lesser people have done well with message board and server administration.
Saw that Ed answered this already. Sorry!
This bears repeating.
I do hope the Teeming Millions will reflect on this, as they enjoy a glass of perspective and soda.
Indeed, the force is strong with this one.
Yeah, I thought we were all done. I’ve got no complaints at all but I’m not a super search guru; I’m just a guy who is grateful to be here and grateful that there is a here to be.
Posted as a poster.
This is the Dope! Are you crazy?
Again I say, I would be okay with everything if only the display were fixed. That’s the only real flaw, IMO. It’s not absolutely crucial, but for it to be left as it is means that this will be another of those ghetto boards where newcomers are told, “Well, you just can’t do that any more. Here’s a half-assed workaround.”
Of course, it may be that no one could possibly have foreseen this when they started the upgrade. But I’ve forgotten, if I ever knew, why the boards needed to be upgraded at all. What was (seen as) wrong with them? Are we any better off now?
Uh, yes? We’re not timing out every other page load? The board stability is in fact very good lately?
Well, all right. It was a real question, not a rhetorical one.
Stillwantmygoddamnforumdisplaythoughdammit…
Sorry for the overabundance of snark, but it has been running smoothly. Granted, the archives had to get hacked to make it so, but I’d rather be able to keep posting in current threads than get to older ones.
Well I got my answer and it is the answer I feared and not the one I hoped for but at least we have a better idea.
If a mod feels like lock this I would have no complaint and none if you leave it open.
Jeff I apologize for replying so strongly. That is not my normal nature on the board but your post read snarky to me at a time and in a thread where I did say I was feeling pissed off. I think you ended up getting most of my bile.
