Anyone else have a crush on a fictional character?

Johnny Smith. I’d have to go with Stu Redman from The Stand, and Jack from The Talisman. Also the fat boy from IT. The one who grew up to be an architect. He was just the sweetest thing, and grew up to be a handsome devil! Nobody can develop a character and make him seem so real as Stephen King.

When I was a kid, Charles Wallace from A Swiftly Tilting Planet. In the other two books he was too young, but I liked Calvin O’Keefe at that point anyway.

Jax, from Barbara Kingsolver’s Pigs in Heaven. I used to go out with this guy who was a big-time jerk, just because certain things about him reminded me of Jax.

And of course, Zaphod Beeblebrox.

He’s actually a talking bear, you know.

Porthos, all the way!

Hmmm. I can see Talia. I think that personally I’m more of an Elspeth person, myself… her, or Kerowyn before she made captain.

Or maybe Kerowyn’s grandma… Kethry went through life with a sharp mind and a gleeful sensuality. I could go for that…

Sally Shears (aka Molly Millions) from William Gibson’s Sprawl stories (minus the razor blades, I’m convinced she was the model for Trinity in The Matrix). She kicks major butt and can sever testicles with a flick of her wrist.

I like the way she thinks, too. She jacks into the Matrix and Case rides along; when she realizes he’s there and, essentially, sharing her body, she reaches into her jacket and gives her tit a squeeze. Totally bizarre sensation for him, 'cause it kinda feels like he’s squeezing his own tit. Mind job.

In my somewhat gothic youth I had a real thing for Edward Fairfax Rochester from Jane Eyre. Dark and brooding were really appealing then.

Dolores- I know what you mean. His name was Ben, I believe. I don’t remember his last name, though. (Hey, Ben is better than “the fat boy.”) He was sweet.

And if we’re talking about The Stand, I’ll have to go with everybody (well almost everybody)'s fave bad guy…Randall Flagg. Tho Harold himself wasn’t so bad.

I was starting to wonder where all the guys who lusted for female characters were. Here they are!

Kallessa, I’m a big fan of Patricia McKillip books, too. She’s one of my all-time most beloved authors.

Me, I have a huge yen for Deth from the Riddlemaster Trilogy. So so quiet, so gentle, so intelligent, such a dangerous, unpredictable liar … Oh, yeah. By the time he lost the use of his hands in the third book, I was his slave.

(Sorry, I just have to do a small hijack here, having run across another McKillip reader) - I once read a story by her that was based on Hans Christian Anderson’s “Ice Queen” story. It was amazingly good, but I’ve forgotten what it was called or where it was published. Do you know?

Jekeira–I believe it’s called The Snow Queen, published in the * Snow White, Red Rose* (I think that’s the title–I know it’s Snow White something)collection in 1993 edited by Datlow and Windling, and in the Best of Fantasy and Horror volume 7, by the same editors.

Oh, and just so this isn’t just a hijack–I agree with you about Deth–another crush. And somebody mentioned Ponyboy Curtis, oh I remember him. And I’ll add a new name–Rakossy, a medieval Hungarian Baron fighting the Turks in the novel of the same name by Cecelia Holland. Several of her characters could go on this list when I think about it.

Hawk and Fisher from the Hawk and Fisher Books by Simon Green. I have to say I have not found anyone with more disdain and rudeness to anyone they think worth it as equal to me. I swear to god I could knock back a few beers with both of them and be the 3rd Guardsman with relish

In the realm of King, Roland the Gunslinger and I would make good traveling mates. I fire while seeing my fathers face and have a good supply of riddles.

Beowulf

Sir Gawain

Could a person faking their identity on the inernet simply to fit into society be a legit ‘fictional character’ if the person talking to them starts to love them?

Internet love, is fake as it gets, although you are both being legit… it is too easy to fake who you are over the internet… you never know… i could be 103 years old… type a character a minute, but still able to think logically and ethically as a 23 year old could… anything is possible…

A character i have fallen in love with , (for fetish reasons) is cat woman reoww… well… thats the closest i have come across… but i dont ‘love’ her… just her looks and her soft, sly, personality. a venis fly trap as it were… a thorned rose…|!?

Simply a matter or tastes…

Peace,

I’ve had a long-time crush on HAL-9000. I mean, he was so devoted, and crazy, and he was SUCH a good singer… hooo…
