I heard Karl Zero’s music on The X-Files episode ‘Improbable’. Now, my taste in music hovers around old school punk and ‘real alternative’ (as opposed to ‘pop alternative’ that you normally hear on the radio – although I’ll take what I can get). What kind of music does Karl Zero perform? Bossa nova? Cha-cha? Samba? Something else? (After going to Amazon, I see that reviewers call it ‘cha-cha’.)
Whatever. After hearing his music on The X-Files, I had to buy Zero’s Songs for Cabriolets and Otros Tipos de Vehiculos. There’s just… something… about it. It’s fun. It makes me wish my '66 MGB were restored, already. It makes me daydream of driving it through the Italian Alps, and showing up in some small town in the middle of a festival. Or it makes me wish for a Fiat 500 or some other funky '60s car, and showing up in some small town in the middle of a festival. Zero’s music is festive. I generally like cool weather. Still, it makes me long for days sunny and hot. I can see myself in a short sleeve retro-style shirt with the wind blowing over the open cockpit or through the open window.
Nat ‘King’ Cole CDs have been advertised heavily of late, and one of the clips they play is I Love You For Sentimental Reasons. Gotta say, I like Zero’s version better.
One of these days I’ll have to translate the non-English songs.
Now if only I could see ‘Improbable’ again…
