With the miserable, continuing cold weather I don’t feel like taking my usual walks.
PS. I am NOT looking for responses along the line of “Nice weather here, just came back from the beach”

Cold here (for Central Texas) 33f… So far no ice, sleet or freezing rain in my little corner of Paradise. Did get to the store and Library Thu… Rain/ice does not mix well with a power chair,so inside I am.
This is why I keep the internet,so that I can get “out” so to speak. Got a bunch of “fluffy” paperbacks and ,if I get bored enough I’ll delve into my collection of big books
You just have to dress appropriately and get out there! I’ve been bundling up to go for my walks and it’s very refreshing. I even went out when it was -30.
Totally. And to top it off, I’ve been sick all week. I had to cancel 18 visits this week. My paycheck is not going to be fun. By Friday, I had stopped spewing mucus everywhere for most of each hour, so I (masked, drowned in hand sanitizer) saw two guys who really couldn’t wait a week. My cough cooperated nicely on schedule, allowing me to leave the room to cough and heave and wash my hands once every 30 minutes.
I’m so sick of being sick. I’m so sick of sitting in my apartment. I want to get OUT! Someone call me a whaaaaaambulance, please.
WhaaaaAAAAAAaaaaaaaAAAAAAaaaaaaaaAAAAAAAA
(on the way, lights & siren)
Best to be sick when it’s nasty outside. That way you’re stuck inside for one week for two reasons rather than for two weeks for one reason each.
And OP: No, it’s awful at the beach today. Not good. Stay away. Traffic is insane.
It’s not so bad to walk if there’s no wind. But there’s been wind!
I adopted 2 dogs in the last few months and the unusually warm weather was a boon. I figured out they were high energy and needed to go out and run in the yard twice a day and go for a walk. No problem when it was 50!
But the one is not very “hardy” (like my golden retriever who begged to go out in this weather) and both of them seem to get cold feet pretty quickly, so I need to get them fitted with boots if I want to walk and I just do not want to deal with it. Boots on dogs are not as easy as one would think.
Anyway so I’m trying to go outside with them at least twice a day still to make them run but it doesn’t last very long due to the cold. And I keep losing tennis balls in the snow.
So I am stuck inside with two dogs that have a lot of energy but are too cold to go outside and it sucks. We’re all still learning about each other and it’s just kind of a mess.
Yesterday I took them to dog daycare just so they could have some fun!
I am totally sick of no sunshine! I can sort of deal with the cold since I have a nice indoor track to walk on with other people to talk to, but day after day with no sun makes me want to hibernate until spring. That seems to be my cats’ approach too as they just sleep all day. ZipperJJ, those are some beautiful dogs. I wish you had an indoor track to run on with the dogs. Hey, there’s an idea for a business…
I feel your pain!
Please take something to thin the mucus out so you can cough it out,not let it pack down in the bottom of your lungs… I live on Guaifenesin this time of year and hot lemon ginger tea…
I go for my walks in spite of the cold weather - it was pretty chilly yesterday (-7ºC), but the sun was out and it was nice and sunny, so I went for an hour and a half walk instead of a half hour walk. It really is important to get out and get any sunshine you can in winter - so you don’t get cabin fever.
Guaifenesin is my friend this week. Usually it doesn’t do much for me, but this particular cough is very responsive to it. (Why do they have to add that nasty menthol to it, though? It tastes so icky. I wish I could make my own, but now that it’s approved as a drug, it’s very hard to get the herb it’s made from. le sigh )
Whatever 4’s instant doggy boots:
8 ordinary socks or tennis-type socks
scissors
elastic, shoe laces, string, whatever
I buy baby socks at the dollar store, staple a piece of elastic at the back and a piece of velcro on the front. easy peasy
Not at all. The best thing about winter is that I have an excuse to not go outside.
Yes. I’ve been sick for over two weeks, and I’m really tired of being inside.
Feh.
Yeah, if you don’t have to go anywhere, and it’s your choice to be out there, and you can pile on the clothes without worrying about getting overheated at your destination…
I have had to get out and go to work every day during the cold snap, and come back home in the dark. Often with icy roads and blowing snow. I’m rather happy to be home and indoors today… but I know I’m only good for 2-3 days like that, then I start getting urges to go outside again even if that means looking like a heap of laundry.
Menthol? I take the store brand pills – name brand is about $10 more for the same amount … and Guaifenesin is the only active ingredient…
Yes, Gott in Himmel, I am so over winter already. We’ve had a week of temperatures that never went into double Fahrenheit digits. Overnight lows all below zero.
This kind of cold is painful, even when you stay inside. We all have nosebleeds. I am shivering while I’m in the shower. Even morning coffee doesn’t warm me up.
Why the hell do we live here?
I was stuck in the house for a couple of days, and it was cold, but it wasn’t so much the cold as the fact that there was so much ice on the ground. I didn’t want to risk falling. On the third day I finally risked venturing out onto the ice.
Oh, I’ll have to try the pills. I’ve been taking the nasty syrup.
No chance to get out & exercise.
I am turning to lard.
I feel your pain – happens to me every year. I fill my giant pasta pot with water, then set it to a low boil/simmer. Helps get some more moisture in the air!
You can throw in some spices, too, if you want to make the house smell good.
