Anyone else watching Eli Stone?

*Warning: I’m feeling too lazy to box spoilers, so if you plan to watch and haven’t yet, at least the first episode, then please read on at your own peril.

I decided to give this a try because it got good reviews, and the only other show I was watching before got cancelled. I thought the first show was okay, although I was a bit put off by the “vaccines cause autism” theme. At least they put a disclaimer at the end indicating that no one really knows what causes autism.

Jonny Lee Miller does a good job with it. He’s not leading man handsome (they seem to have added in some more hair on his forehead for this role), and has an intriguing resume. Generally likeable, goofy everyman super smart guy that Dopers should be able to relate to.

Laura Benanti (brunette with wavy hair) was cute and likeable, looks like she’ll be in a few more episodes.

Overall, I thought that there were some clever jokes. I especially like the sherpas or whatever they were supposed to be. And he plot twists weren’t too big a stretch or too groan inducing, mostly just the “friend from the other side gives a key file over” thing, but given this guy is supposed to be a prophet with visions of George Michael, that’s hardly the most unrealistic thing to happen.

Net, it was okay, I’ll watch it again this week, then go from there.

I have a little trouble with the concept in general and had a real problem with the first episode case involving autism and vaccines so I’m ignoring it in hopes it’ll go away soon.

I like the actor who plays Eli and the show only gets 13 episodes this season so I’ll try it out for awhile. I’m kinda burned out on lawyer shows though.
