I was much more active around here 2 - 3 years ago, but one poster who always made me think, or gave me a chuckle, was MeanOldLady. Truth be told, I hadn’t even thought specifically of her in a number of months, but tonight while researching Uber/Lyft threads (this one here, if you’re interested: In case you were wondering, Lyft sucks - Mundane Pointless Stuff I Must Share (MPSIMS) - Straight Dope Message Board), I came across her name again, and thought to myself “geez, wonder what ever happened to her”.
Even though I don’t think she and I ever “interacted” at all in any given thread, I always liked her posts and her super-cool “IDGAF” writing style. Doesn’t look like she was banned, and I was glad not to see her mentioned in the In Memoriam thread.
She always struck me as being one of those 15 - 20 posters here who was in the “inner circle” (if there is one), so I was just curious if anyone happened to know if she just took a break for a week, that turned into two, that turned into months (her last activity was late June of 2017).
I’m not gonna lose any sleep over it, it was more just a personal curiosity thing than anything.
I recently noticed we were worse for her absence too. Her last activity here was June 26 2017. I was able to summon her with witchcraft in this thread. It looks like that was the last time she posted. :eek:
OK – now that you bring it up you got me curious as well. She did more a “drop out” than a fade and just slipped under my radar. This long of a time out doesn’t strike me as usual for her.
She moved from Chicago back to her (I believe) native southern California. She probably has better things to do now than to hang out with the riffraff here.
My recollection (which I’ve now confirmed through a quick glance at her posting history) is that it has not been uncommon for her to disappear from posting for a month or more, and then to resurface for a little while before disappearing again. The gaps in the last couple of years have been bigger, but perhaps still gives hope that she’ll show herself around these parts again at some point.
I do not understand the comment about her having better things to do than hang out with people here. How would that even be possible?
I have a similar record of spotty posting, but I’ve never been as active or as well-liked as she was. In my case, lengthy absences have been caused by my workplace restricting access to the boards or just being caught up in other real-life stuff. It happens.
Thanks for checking in. Are the rumors true you’re back in Socal? I only ask 'cause my eldest is going to Chapman’s Film School in the Fall and I may be up for a Socal dope fest during a visit to see China Bambina (and of course to stealth brag).
