Anyone familiar with 'Chew Fruit' candy from days gone by?

Here is a cover of singer Dave Mason’s New Crest on an Old Wave. It never occurred to me that the artwork was a part of pop culture before appearing on Mason’s album, but. . .

Some years ago in one of the many well known restaurant chains with various artifacts and relics of Americana adorning the walls, I look up and see this painting. However, it’s not touting Mason’s album, but a candy called “Chewy Fruit.” The wording said, “I’m ready to fight for my Chew Fruit chocolate.” Then there was something about “Allen Confections,” which could have been a local manufacturer.

Anyone familiar with these confectionary morsels? Since Dave Mason was a Brit, it might possibly have been a UK candy.

The Chewy Fruit sweets I remember are like fruit flavoured Mentos.

Mentos offers a fruit favored variety, so maybe they’re/they were marketed under another name in some countries? Of course, I could be interpreting what you said wrong, and you mean they are similar to the fruit flavored mentos, not they are like mentos but fruit flavored… of course, there are other chewy fruit flavored candies other than mentos, such as chewy spree and chewy sweetarts, so it could be a orginial product in its own right.

Well, the picture given does look like the type of Mentos that are fruit flavored. The picture claims they are called Chewy Fruits, though.

I’d guess they aren’t the same thing, unless you remember them having a vaguely mint taste–you know, like tic tacs or Certs. The fruit flavored Mentos are still supposed to be breath fresheners, not candy.
