Anyone getting Spore?

Yeah, I keep ending up with the needle-mouth last - the cells that have it that you can kill don’t seem to turn up until then. I used both mouth types to sort that out, too, though you have to be careful you’re getting similar amounts of each.

It may not be the “Best Game Ever”, and it probably doesn’t live up to they hype surrounding it (which is not at all surprising considering how much hype there has been), but it’s definitely an entertaining game. I played it for about 3 or 4 hours yesterday afternoon, and just managed to get to the Tribal Stage before I had to give the computer over to The Kiddo (he was about to explode from watching me and not being able to play himself).

I thought the Cell Stage provided a good introduction, but I thought it could have been a bit longer. The Creature Stage was a lot of fun, and I probably spent as much time customizing my creature as I did actually “playing” the game. The Tribal Stage seems initially like it’s going to require a lot of micromanagement…I’m not sure how I feel about that yet, or indeed if my initial impression is correct. As for the rest, I guess I’ll find out soon…

Overall, I’m happy so far, and I think I’ll definitely get my 50 buck’s worth…
ETA:

Regarding creating a creature as an Omnivore…

I believe I read somewhere (can’t recall where) that if you start in Cell Stage, you are limited to Herbivore or Carnivore only. If you want to create an Omnivore, you must begin at the Creature Stage (or later). Hopefully someone can come along to confirm or deny this, or I can remember where I read it.

Thanks for that. My first try at actually playing the game is currently in Tribal and trying to take over the planet, having also been stuck on Carnivore in Cell.

If you add other people to your buddy list then their critters will show up in your game. Anyone want to list their Spore IDs so we can see what each other have been coming up with? Here’s my profile.

Pretty sure that’s wrong. I just played a critter in cell stage, trying to make an omnivore. Basically I started as herbivore, but purchased a carnivore mouth as soon as I could. I popped 'em both on the critter (you have to position one slightly sideways to get 'em both on) and I could eat both plants & animals.

Then it appears you have to balance eating both meat & plants. If you can balance 'em, at the end you’ll end up an omnivore. If you go too much to one or the other, then you’ll end up as herbivore/carnivore.

Sounds good- here’s my profile:

If the expansion packs add a lot more depth to the game, I’d get them. If it’s just a bunch more parts, screw it.

Still waiting for the delivery…

So what’s the trick to adding buddies? I can’t seem to figure out how to do it!

Nevermind, I figured it out. The big yellow PLUS sign.

One quirk to be aware of… you have to have a Spore account and be logged in yourself before you can see anyone else’s Spore profile; otherwise you get an error page. I’m not sure if that is intended behavior or not, but for now take it as an fyi…

I just started so much isn’t created.

I’m in the Space Stage and it will not allow me to save my game. Any one else get hung up like this?

Zoom out all the way, worked for me at least.

Fabulous, it worked. Now i can go to bed. Thanks

Well, well, well, Lightin’. A whole damn pack of your Termigons just attacked my village. This means WAR, dammit, WAR!

The color is different than yours, though. Kind of a nice touch. They look good in blue.

Here’s my page.

Edit: Haha, you won’t believe this Lightnin’ but I already dled one of your creatures automatically it was the first race I befriended first time round the creature stage. Specifically Sporepedia

and I’m sure it was yours.

Wheee I foundsed a bug!

My creature spawned in the middle of the water and if I go on land I get eaten by the sea monster because it thinks the land is water for some reason. Note that all the other nests and all the food is on the land.

I need a strategy guide or something; there are so many questions I have. For example: what do I do once I domesticate an animal? And I can’t figure out how to do the music thing to befriend people.

After you domesticate there’s a basket on one side that they lay eggs in, you can use it as another food supply.

The music thing is just like the conversation in the creature stage, except you have multiple people and have to equip the items.

In case you missed that too:

  1. Make sure your relationship is at least yellow, if it’s not you have to have your chieftain give them a gift. To do this put yourself in social mode and right click on their fool pile, this will cost 10 food so prepare accordingly.
  2. Build a hut with the items
  3. Try to evenly distribute the instruments between members of your tribe.
  4. Memorize what the icon for the instruments is. Horn is 1, Maracas are 2, Didgeridoo is 3.
  5. Initiate conversation
  6. When an icon for a specific instrument appears above the other tribe’s head press the corresponding button.

I’d probably be able to work up a bit more interest in the game if I could evolve midi-chlorians. But until that option is available I’ve really got too many other projects going on. The game did look interesting from what little I’ve seen though. Should be interesting to see where the first few updates take it.
