You know, one of these things. I was thinking of getting one for my sister as a present, but she doesn’t own a smartphone and has no plans to. She does however have several tablets (including a Kindle Fire) and a home WiFi network. I figure the Kindle, being a modified version of Android, probably won’t easily work with it (or at all). But will most any Android tablet be ok? The site says it has to be** Android 4.0** or higher. I have an iPhone and no little about Androids. Which ‘flavor’ was 4.0? How new of a tablet would have this? And how do you bring up the Android OS version number in the interface? (my sister lives far away so I’ll have to be explaining all this over the phone).
Ice Cream Sandwich was released in 2011, so by tablet standards it’s not very new. I’ve seen tablets running Jelly Bean and Kit Kat at the Walmart near me. Lollipop just came out in November.
Finding your version varies a bit, but generally you click on settings at the bottom of the Android home screen, then click on system settings. This will give you a list of things that is different on different devices and versions, but look for something called “about” in the list, then click on something like software information.
Can’t help you with your actual pet cube, but FWIW I have some robots that can be controlled from a smart phone and they work just fine with an Android tablet.
Eh. I don’t like them using trade names. I didn’t like Kit-Kat. They were going to use “Key Lime Pie”. I wanted them to use “Kirschtorte”. I was also hoping for “Licorice” for L, but “Lollipop” is OK, too. I’ll guess on “Marshmallow” for M. If they want to go the trade name route, at least use “Moon Pie”.
