They have a wonderful soap that costs about $8. A bit expensive, yes, but it’s a big bar and it lathers soooo well. I love the “milk” scent.
My husband loves L’Occitane, especially anything in the Verbena line. I think they’re stuff is too stinky.
Their! Their! Argh!
My best friend sells L’Occitane in his shop; he likes it (he tests almost everything he sells), but for his own use he prefers Dr. Hauschka.
Me, I buy Neutrogena, that’s as 'spensive as I’ll go.
Well I have given her the stuff - she really liked it. Thanks for your opinions. My Mum’s birthday is coming up soon, too, so I know what she’ll be getting.
They gave me a sampler of some shampoo, as well, but I don’t know if I would ever buy stuff for myself there. I’ll stick to the decore and Boss.

Ummm…Rose?
What does the word “shea” mean? The reason I ask is my friend bought one of these “L’Occitane” products, read the label, noticed the word shea, and then proceeded to inquire my perplexed self as to what it meant? I was stumped (having only heard of it in a baseball context, never in relation to butter)!
Anyhoo, I promised her that I would further investigate the matter (read: that I would pose the question to my fellow dopers).
After some google work, I found out that shea butter comes from the karite tree (which would seem to explain why its french equivalent is “karité”). If you read the link provided, you will notice that this misterious tree is also called shea trea. So, after this brief research, two questions remain unanswered:
- What is the original name of the tree, shea or karite? And how did it come to be known by both names?
- Would a working definition of shea be “oil extracted from the fruit of the karite/shea tree”?
Cheers,

My wife bought me some shaving kit and I have been using their shaving products for about 3 years now. Yes it’s on the expensive side BUT when a cake of shaving cream last you for about a year… just think of how many cans of Gilette Foamy that would be. It is worth every penny!
I also have their after shave balm… Again a little dolop goes a long way. Fantastic products…
Do you think they have mail order for the rural set? My trips into the city are so few and far between, and I’m sure Mrs Wavy would appreciate something nice. Anyone have any leads on this perhaps?
Thanks.
You can buy it on QVC.com. They sell many of their products and at a great price too!! Enjoy shopping.
Thanks pavilion, and welcome.

um, yes. Its the only incense I will burn in my house, as it does not smell “incense-y.”
I wear their amber parfum oil, it’s great, my boyfriend’s step-mom wears the green tea or lotus flower. Also, as soon as I can afford it, I am going to get their hand cream, I had a smaple and rationed it out I loved it so much. Worth the extra few bucks indeed.
