It’s my girlfriend’s birthday on Monday, and I went out and got her some smelly stuff from a place called L’Occitane En Provence. It seemed quite nice, and was pretty exxie - the kind of stuff she likes.
Has anyone heard of this stuff and is it any good? I got a ‘frequent buyer’ card and if I spend enough money there I start getting a frequent discount. If the stuff is good, then I can do all my ‘bird’ shopping there (Mums, sisters, etc).
The place also seems a bit wanky, though - the lady in the shop was french (of course), and the bag has written on it
I bought a cake of their soap from David Jones the other week. Haven’t opened it so far but all the stuff I squoze out of the testers seemed nice. Cool packaging too.
That’s the one. It is a nice building, and with the ridiculous amount of development going on in town at the moment (mostly residential) it was good to see an older building utilised rather than knocked down.
My sister picked up some good stuff for me from l’Occitane as a gift and I really like it. The 100% shea butter in the round tin has kept my knuckles soft as can be.
My wife loves the place, buys all kinds of things there.
I also use the shea butter, nearly every night; it’s helping my raw red hands get through this rotten winter.
They have fancy-schmancy shaving soaps for men, too, and cute little bowls to keep them in, and brushes, none of which I’ve tried. I’ll stick with Burma-Shave.
Yeah, it is quality stuff. I recently bought my girlfriend a lotus-scented bubble bath and one of those lavender candles after she had a shitty bout at the hospital, and it was much appreciated.
And no, it’s not that expensive, but from a certain standpoint, $40 for a candle and some bubble bath is pretty excessive.
It’s the dangdest thing: women whom I have given L’Occitane products to seem to see me as more handsome and continental. When I lived in France, and before they started marketing in the States, that was the only place my girlfriend of the time would consider for bath products (that and her penchant for Shiseido makeup had a serious budgetary impact). I turned the female members of my family, and more recently my current not-quite girlfriend, on to the stuff and now they clamor for more, which I’ll admit has made Christmas shopping rather more pricy.
I hope they don’t go overboard and open a shop in every mall. Then it’ll be just as common as Bath & Body Works and I’ll have lost that slight edge.
I have their shaving kit: a nice shaving brush, shaving soap, and a shaving soap bowl. I’m very happy with it. Bought it at the L’Occitane in the Passage Shops at the Aladdin in Las Vegas with blackjack winnings. Woo hoo!
L’Occitane is a bit on the spensive side but where else are you going to find the same thing for less? Their scented oils are fabulous, not too sweet and just complex enough to make your nose happy but not overwhelmed. I like to mix the mint and verbena perfumes, yum!
Haven’t found anything I didn’t like, though I don’t believe their shampoo or conditioner is particularily better than other less expensive brands.
got my dad some shower gel and after shave balm there.
he liked.
i wanted to get him some nice shaving stuff, and he thinks that all the calvin klein type stuff is too perfumy and “girly”.
Acqua di Parma is acceptable, but pricey!
L’Occitane is old-fashioned and macho enough, apparently.
they have really nice room fragrances/incense/scented candles too.
the main thing is, the ladies in your life will know that you spent time and effort getting good quality stuff.
us chicks like that
