Yeah, (ooh-ooh),
Yeah! (handclaps),

I like Hall and Oates…Rich Girl, She’s Gone, Your Kiss is on my List, Sara Smile.
My band does a rippin’ cover of Rich Girl!
My wife loves H&O, and dragged me to one of their reunion concerts last summer. Man, the place was crawling with women who had gone to college in the mid to late 70’s and were all crazy about Hall and Oates. They were mobbing the stage down in front. It was truly a sight to behold.
They did put on a pretty good show - and Maneater was a real highlight.
I used to really love Hall & Oates. But I hated Maneater. I still think it’s their poorest song, it sets my teeth on edge.
My favourite is probably Rich Girl. I saw them live once, I was underwhelmed, but I suspect that’s cos I was having a really bad week at the time.
Don’t know much about them, but I saw some of the aforementioned A & E special. I was seriously impressed by Hall’s voice. He had great range, strength and perfect tone. It was interesting to actually hear someone who was neither lip-syncing nor being processed through the board to compensate for their deficiencies.
Although I’ve liked a good few of their songs, Family Man was not one of them, perhaps because I much preferred the original by Mike Oldfield.
‘She’s Gone’ holds a lot more meaning when it’s actually happened to you, great song.
Probably their most underrated (minor) hit: “Your Imagination”
I have their “Liberty Concert” they did in 1986 for HBO. Live, they do nothing for me. Hall tends to go all Vegas-y by dragging out the endings of the songs.
“Rich Girl” was the first time I heard someone use the word “bitch” in that manner (“It’s a bitch, girl…”)
I like “Maneater” because of the cool bass line.
Although a lot of people put them down for being generic top 40, they were very experimental on their albums. A few of their more quirky songs:
Gotta Lotta Nerve(Perfect Perfect)
hallfon/intravino
Tell Me What You Want
Delayed Reaction
and there’s several more, if you search deep enough

In the 80s, I did aerobics to You Make My Dreams Come True and I still remember the aerobics leader chick yelling “Bicycle, bicycle, bicycle!” over one of the brief piano breaks right before Daryl scream “Ahhh you! Baby now, you make my dreams come truuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuue!”
It’s one of those earwig songs, I tell ya. All of their songs, really.

Private eyes (clap!) they’re watching you (clap clap!)
Say it, say it isn’t so, ooooooh, say it!
I think their success stemmed largely from their ability to write songs that you couldn’t stop thinking about no matter how hard you tried.

She’s goooooooooooooooooone! This song has been stuck in my head since I can remember. I was just singing it too myself while turning on my computer. There is no escape.
On a lighter note: a friend I work with told me about how his father got into a fight with Mr. Hall many many years ago over a pot deal gone bad. I understand that this was before Daryl was a big musician.
I saw them two years ago on my birthday. The concert was awesome because every song was hit. Tney only played two songs from their upcoming album because they said they knew why everyone was there.
