Well, nothing happened on the 9 previous 9/11’s, so I highly doubt anything will on this one. I don’t think an attack on the scale of 9/11 will happen again for many, many years (if at all- and if it does it’ll probably be by different people) due to the enormous cost/amount of planning/etc., especially given the fact that Al Qaeda has been severely weakened during the years between 9/11/01 and now.
I live in NYC and will be going about my business as usual…this Sept. 11th will be my 4th one spent in New York…to be honest it’s rare for anyone (well at least among the people I know) to even bring up that it happens to be 9/11.
I’m also confused about the statement regarding our enemies planning attacks to coincide with anniversaries. The only thing that springs to mind is Timothy McVeigh planning the Oklahoma City Bombings to be on the same day as Waco…and he was a domestic terrorist.
Yes, because terrorist would pick a day when people would exspect them and security will be heightened. I have no respect for terrorist, but terrorist are NOT stupid. People who think terroritst attack the same location on the same day every year are the ones who are stupid. Just book the flight.
I’ll be flying on that date, and I’m not in the least afraid of it - because I’m not an irrational pansy who gets all “wee-wee’d” up about such things. jeez.
I think the next 9/11esque attack will probably be in a country that’s doing much better off than America. There’s no point in kicking a dead horse so to speak.
As it happens, my wife and I will be flying on 09/11/11. I won’t say we’re making a special point to be flying on that day, but it fits our plans and I’ll be damned if I let fear influence that decision.
See this is the attitude that really frustrates me. The government and the media have fooled people into thinking Al-Qaeda is a powerful nearly omnipresent organazation that is capable of striking anywhere at any moment. No they’re not. They were a small time outfit that due to numerous government screwups and bad luck got a once in a lifetime strike. Even if they were as powerful as they were in 2001 (and they’re not even close) the changes in security have made the small chance of another strike downright miniscule.
I just had to check my flight itinerary to be sure - I’m flying on the 9th, but it wouldn’t have occurred to me not to book on the 11th and I would have if it had suited my plans. This is for flights within Europe, so a bit different, but I would be prepared to fly in the US if I happened to need to.
I don’t travel much, but I wouldn’t hesitate to book a flight on this date. All I can think of when I think of planes is how much more likely I am to be killed or injured in, or by (since I’m a frequent pedestrian and cyclist), a car.
I will not fly on 9/11/11. Neither will I fly on 9/10/11 or 8/17/11. I’m not afraid of terrorists, I’m pissed to hell off at the TSA. Until they get this fake-ass, “Let’s grope children and transsexuals” security theater reworked into something that actually helps travelers I’m not flying.
(I know, I know, the airlines will surely will not miss my one flight every five years money, but fuck those guys.)
I would, but I have dinner plans that night. Also, I’m really too broke to be flying anywhere without bonus miles. I mean, really, if you were going to hijack a plane, would you do it on the one day everyone’s going to be thinking about hijacked planes?
I flew on 9/11/09, and I’d do it again if that fit the itinerary best. I have no plans to travel next month, though. What will really annoy me is that, with the NFL Opening Weekend that day, we’ll be bombarded with Chris Berman and his ilk hyping up how America Stands Strong and junk like that. I’ll probably avoid tv that day and just miss football. For what it’s worth, if I were worried about flying that day, I’d be more concerned about taking a flight from, for example, Kansas City to Las Vegas or something like that (even then, though, it’s a 1/1000s chance that they pick that specific flight, let alone pull off the task). I think that if AQ could somehow pull off a repeat of 9/11, they’d be better off doing it to “everyday Americans” to really throw people into a fit. “Now they can strike anywhere!!!”
