When I was at my sister’s house tonight, she had a pitcher of mixed drink. And it reminded me of Zarex, a mix we drank alot as kids (I’m 6 yrs older), I laughed when I asked her same-aged bf if he remembered Zarex, and he said no.
I have heard of it only because Stephen King mentioned it in The Stand. If I remember correctly, a character says something like, “If you gave me a choice between drinking Za-Rex and bullpiss, I’d have to set down and think her over.”
“You can have mine, Stu.”
Yeah, that’s the only place I’ve heard of it, too. We used to drink Freshie when I was a kid - that might have been regional (that image might bring back a few memories for Canadian Dopers) :).
Yeah, that looks like it’s Canadian Za-rex.
I remember it. <ick>
It was the standard ‘beverage’ offered to us at Vacation Bible School. I mainly remember it as being closer to colored water rather than a drink with flavor, but maybe the church diluted the stuff too much to save money.
etv78 - IIRC, you’re in the Boston area. Stores in the Foodmaster chain often carry Zarex. Near the Ovaltine-type mixes, on the top shelf. HTH
I remember Zarex well-drank gallons of the stuff as a kid.
As I remember, the stuff was always vividly colored-the lime punch was a bright fluorescent green-cherry was neon red.
No dobt they used a lot of dies that probably (today) would be considered ndesireable.
Yup, I live 30 minutes from Boston. A link above showed where Za-rex is available.
