If someone abducted dear sun, please return him. He is greatly missed, life is cold and miserable without him. Besides this constant darkness is really driving me to the pits.
Yeah, sorry. He’s in my yard at the moment, making the grackles look all sparkly. Shall I just call out to him and send him your way?
I love living here in the winter. I liked Yellowknife, but living at 63 degrees North is not so good when you get all of four hours of sunlight in a day.
Is it just me or is Denver one of the sunniest places on Earth? I lived there for five years and was ready to drop kick the sun into the next universe. I had headaches from how damn sunny it was. Even when it snowed, it was sunny. Bah.
Rabbit, that sums it up perfectly. This is one of the few times during the year I can tolerate the weather in New Orleans. I’m not worried about getting heat stroke while working outside, hurricane ripping the roof off my house or the streets turning into rivers trying to get into my house. Oh how nice it is.
You know, Ginger, the long arctic nights never bothered me so much (with the exception of one Yellowknife winter when I had ALL the symptoms of SAD). The long days, though, seemed to make me and everybody else pretty insane. And anytime I got into the true 24 hour sun areas during the summer, everone seemed totally loony, even by our relaxed northern standards.
My YK-dwelling sister is a total loony all year. It could be SAD, or she could just be loony. By the time Caribou Carnival rolls around, she’s Raven Mad. Where do you live, and when were you in YK? I may know you!
Steelerphan: I’d respond, but I’m spending the year dead for tax purposes.
Tell me about it. I’ve been here just about exactly a year, and I’ve been waiting for this weather to come back since about February! I really need to move somewhere where they have at least a mild winter. I HATE heat.
My move here was dictated by circumstances more than choice, though aside from the humidity I’m enjoying it.
Ginger, it’d be cool if we’d met, but I think it’s unlikely. I was in YK from '86-90, and Iqaluit from 1999-2001. In T.O. at the moment, we’ll see for how long. Still know some people in the North, so I suppose we might have mutual acquaintances. If you want to take it to e-mail, drop me a line.
Oh, bad karma man! You’re definitely going to have a least six legs in your next life for that one.
GingerOfTheNorth,
Four hours a day. That’s about what we have. When you can see it for the clouds that is. Except I’m a work these hours, so poor me only get to have some furtive glimpses of the sun in the weekends.
Autz,
Yes please send sun home. I’m off to bed. Can I expect to see him back tomorrow then? Bright and shining as usual?
