Anyone still watching "How I Met Your Mother"?

I do recall some here that did, but we don’t have our own snazzy weekly threads with dates next to the show’s name, so who knows where they’ve been dispersed to.

Anyway, in case there are still some souls watching (and it hasn’t been relegated to uncool somehow), I’m really enjoying the show at this point. I was there since the beginning and enjoyed it. I wondered at the time if the “Who is the mother” storyline would work after a bit. It seems to have so far. I liked the Victoria storyline and now the ‘Ted/Robin are they on, are they off’ seems to have some promise… somewhat.

Though, of course, Barney drives the show. A better character has not been conceived. The episode where they reveal how he changed from hippie to ‘suit up’, with his tears of joy over being awesome 24/7/365 instead of saddled with a kid and wife was just a joy to watch.

Even Marshall & Lily, which bored me earlier on in the season have grown on me. Yes, they can be sickeningly cute at times, but at least they’ve gone beyond that somewhat.

FWIW, I think the Robin being the ‘aunt’, while a surprise ending for the 1st episode was also a stroke of genius for the future. I mean, we know Robin isn’t going to be the mom, but that doesn’t mean Ted and Robin can’t get together. A problem with the unrealized love in sitcoms is once you give in and put them both together, well… the story lines dry up, then you gotta break 'em up or realize your show is past the pale. At least with this show, if Ted and Robin, who are in that situation, get together, we’ll know that isn’t the end game. There is another to keep us wondering.

So anyway… thoughts? opinions? Bueller?

I wanted to post something after last week’s episode but I didn’t know how many responses it would even get. No threads ever appear on this show.

I really liked the character of Robin. Liked. Before she got into Ted. After that she needlessly turned completely passive-aggressive and week after week started wearing me down.

But last week’s episode takes the cake. I may be alone in this opinion (and it’s not a fully formed one yet because we haven’t yet gotten to the aftermath) but I think Robin has absolutely NO right to be pissed at Ted. None.

Robin called Ted up at 2 in the morning - the very night she knew he was going to be talking to Victoria about possibly breaking up - and invited him over. What did she think was going to happen? How did she think he was going to interpret it? Hell, forget interpret. We all know why she wanted him to come over.

But here’s the question: how did she start the conversation?
“Did you have your conversation with Victoria, Ted?” No.
“So are you and Victoria still together?” No.
“Hello, Ted, my friend, how are you feeling?” No.

“Do you want to come over to my place?” Yes.

She didn’t know his status. She didn’t care! So don’t get pissed when you find out he’s still in a relationship because exactly one hour ago it wasn’t a deal breaker.

I was hesitant to watch it, because first it was scheduled against Kitchen Confidential, an “edgier” single-camera Fox sitcom loosely based on a book I really enjoyed. But Kitchen Confidential’s ratings were abysmal, and Fox quickly pulled the plug. I was still hesitant, because it was a CBS sitcom, and I think of that network’s programming as very stodgy and “middle-of-the-road,” whereas my favorite sitcoms ever are Arrested Development, Scrubs, and both versions of The Office (all single-camera shows with no laugh tracks, that typically skew to younger and “hipper” demographics… no offense meant to the OP, as you will see).

But when I finally gave in and saw HIMYM, it was the New Year’s Eve episode, and I found it surprisingly charming and funny. Neil Patrick Harris’ character Barney was definitely the highlight, but everyone on it was solid – and of course I adore Alyson Hannigan from her time as Willow on Buffy the Vampire Slayer. She’s such a cutie!

I’ve only seen the show 3 or 4 times since then, but I like it now, and I’ll make it a point to tune in more often. Barney really is hilarious, the actress who plays Robin is absolutely stunningly beautiful, and Ted seems like a nice enough guy to be the lead (but not perfect-to-the-point-of-boring, either). It was funny seeing Alyson’s real-life husband Alexis Denisof (Wesley from Buffy/Angel) on last week as Robin’s sleazy co-anchor, but I was hoping he would have a larger role, or maybe share a scene with his wife.

I find it something decent to have on before “24”.

I have to ask, though, what happened to Ashley Williams? I’m not complaining (at all), but her apperance seems to have changed pretty radically since “Good Morning Miami”. She went from your pretty generic stick-thin woman to a rather curvy bodacious babe.

Anyone know?

I am still enjoying the show. I have posted before that the step-brother of my next door neighbor created the show. He’s the real-life Ted. I have never met real-Ted, but I have met his dad many times (including drunken karaoke). This weekend, I met real-Ted’s sister.

Good people. We talked quite a bit about the show and showbiz. Apparently, Judith Light has been cast as Ted’s mom. Ted’s dad has not been cast (they are divorced IRL) and we sat around trying to cast him. I suggested Ron Rifkin. Someone else suggested Jason Alexander. He suggested Redford.

Kind of fun playing the “who would play” game with people who WILL eventually be fictionalized.

Real Ted’s sister will be appearing in the season finale as an extra at the bar.

It is my favorite show this year. I didn’t enjoy last week so much, but they have a regular viewer in me.

Agreed. Though I like that the writers aren’t trying to make the characters super-likable. I can imagine someone in Robin’s position becoming super passive-aggressive (Hell, I’ve seen it in friends before!). So, why I can’t symphatize with her character, it seemed fairly realistic (well, as much as possible ;)) to me.

This episode is on as a repeat tonight, btw. “I think Barney just won Marshgammon.”

I do still watch every new episode. It’s really more clever than CBS could have hoped for, and is actually funny. The characters are great, but especially Barney. I have loved that they so succintly captured the corporate world by having an episode set half the time in Barney’s office, and other than the fact that he has his walls covered with motivational posters, his job is still a complete and total mystery. Last week’s episode, during Lilly’s jobs presentations, Robin was listed on the chalkboard as “Newscaster.” Barney was just “Barney (not the purple one).”

I definitely hope this show lasts.

I realize last night’s episode was a rerun, but I had only caught the last five minutes previously, and it was nice to put everyone’s flashback stories about their most humiliating moments into context. The origin of Barney was too cool!

It’s easy to watch, and I just love Barney. Good to see Neil Patrick Harris get rid of the Doogie Howser character. And it’s always amazing to see a child actor become a bona fide adult actor (besides which, the guy can sing and dance).

I’ve caught a few episodes and was pleasantly surprised. I usually don’t watch sitcoms these days, so it was a pretty unlikely show for me to be watching. Count me in as another who adores Barney (and Neil Patrick Harris, too). Is the narrator voiced by Bob Saget? Because he sounds a LOT like Bob Saget. I’m just sayin’.

I’ll have to get my husband in on the game (though he has class Monday nights)–he actually knows Judith Light! They did a theater program together a couple of years ago.

Count me as one who is sorely disappointed that Ted broke up with Victoria. I really liked her. She was attractive in a “I want to be a part of that magic” way, rather than a Hollywood way. Yummers. There’s still a chance they’ll get back together, right? Right?

My wife watches too, because I showed it to her months ago so she could see how much she and I (now married just under 2 years) are like Marshall and Lily. The whole “I can’t let you see me pee!” episode was right on.

I can’t remember where I read it, but yes, that is Bob in an uncredited part.

Damn, no wonder he sounded so familiar but I couldn’t place the voice.

So, anyone have any poop on my question about Ashley Williams (Victoria)?
