I got rocked in my first SDMB Diplomacy game, but I’d love to do it again.
It looks like we have enough for a game, even discounting the ‘maybe’ and ‘after the other game is over’ responses. Do we have a volunteer to GM?
1-2-3 Not it!
(seriously, not experienced enough with the game to try to adjudicate. Sorry.)
I’ll do it. God knows I’ve done it enough and I enjoy doing it.
Email’s in the profile.
- Email me with preferences as to what country you wish to be. First come first served.
- I’ll build a site and announce scheduling.

I am your Diplomacy God.
This sounds fun, I might be in but I have never played nor heard of this game before. Is there a “quick learner guide” you guys can recommend?
OK, two players have contacted me and I’ve set up a site for the game.
Five more required!
The Diplomatic Pouch Has a good overview of the game, as well as a lot of good resources for on- and off-line players.
I’ve played IRL, but never online. I’d love to play.
I’d be up for it.
OK, I have five players so far. I’m saving a space for Book Monster. So that’s one left. If there’s enough interest I’ll start a second game!
I am in, but I am not near my e-mail right now (it’s blocked at work). I’ll e-mail you tomorrow when I remember. I’ve been reading up on this, and it sounds wonderful. It’s like Risk, only without the chance element which drives me up the wall.
Email sent, from my other account.
Risk is often considered the most luck-intensive war game. Diplomacy is often considered the least luck-intensive war game, and rightly so.
I’ve emailed Jonathan Chance now - do we have everyone we need?
Crap - looks like I’m Austria.
This is a bit of a longshot, but would anyone care to trade with the new guy?
Italy probably will
OK, Scuba Ben and Captain C, you know by now that the game was full by the time you emailed me. I’ll run another game if there are enough interested parties. Based on the posts here there should be.
I thought that might be the case. While the second game organizes, I’ll kibitz on the first game.
Captain_C, interested in a pre-game alliance?

“Lord Protector, Sir?”
Captain Carter had been the Lord Protector’s aide-de-camp for two years now, replacing Lieutenant Wethers, the post’s previous incumbent, who had caught a sniper’s bullet during the assault on the final Royalist stronghold at York. Carter had been the nearest junior officer to the Lord Protector at the time so had gained the position almost by default. It was not an appointment the Lord Protector had ever had cause to regret - the Lieutenant had proven to be an able administrator and a useful foil for ideas. He could also be trusted to be discreet - running secret and potentially fatal messages to other military commanders and key government figures during the recent Parliamentary crisis. Messages without which the events of today could not have happened.
“Garius?”
“Hngk?!”
He had also proven to be discreet about the Lord Protector’s habit of dozing off in his office. Which was handy.
“Sorry about that Carter, its the sound of the rain hitting the bloody window. Sends me off every time. What can i do for you?”
“Just wanted to congratulate you on this morning’s exercise sir - i’m happy to report that all local and national government agencies have reacted favourably to your dissolution of Parliament and initial reports are that the general public have at least accepted, and in many places praised, this new state of affairs, even if your dissolution speech to Parliament was… well… somewhat unorthodox.”
“Unorthodox?”
“Well, remember how you said you were going to go with something similar to Cromwell’s dissolution speech? You even quoted it to me sir”
“That i did - ‘you have been sat too long here for any good you have been doing. Depart, i say, and let us have done with you. In the name of god, go!’ - one of my favourite speeches that.”
“Well i’m failing to see how…” - Carter looked down at his notepad for reference - “‘You’re all a bunch of useless, brown-nosing self-serving bastards who wouldn’t know what an act done solely for the greater good was if it bit you on the arse. Get out of my fucking sight the lot of you.’…is similar, sir.”
The Lord Protector smiled.
“Think of it as a modern interpretation. Somehow i think old Olly would have approved. What about the reaction abroad?”
“To be honest sir, with six major changes in European goverment within the last week, i don’t think anyone is in a position to react to anything at the moment.”
“That’s to be expected, i suppose.” Garius said with a sigh, “You best send for the ambassadors. Its a whole new world out there, and the sooner we establish what it looks like, the better.”
If you happen to be short of a player for Game 2, I haven’t been ass-raped yet this year…
