Cute idea for a show: the animation is terrific, though the script—I’ve only seen the first episode—was only so-so. It’s hardly Simpsons or Futurama level—not even South Park—but it seems to have possibilities. My mother likes it, too—she still misses Daria . . .
I watched and liked it. I think its a really original idea and seems like it could have potential to be really funny. I thought the first episode was pretty good. Certainly better than 3 South which is not very good.
And I really miss Daria too (I still watch it on Noggin’ even though they butcher the hell out of it!)
Hey, I watched this, too…the reviews in both the Daily News and the New York Times were VERY positive.
I loved the concept (16 years ago, dozens of famous dead people were cloned in a highly secret experiment…now they’re all in high school together).
Also loved the weird bag of historical personalities they decided to build the series around. “Hey. let’s make the hero be ABRAHAM LINCOLN! And his amusing dorky sidekick will be GANDHI! And Abe’s got a big crush on CLEOPATRA, but JOAN OF ARC is chasing after him]…and the villain frat-boy can be JOHN F. KENNEDY!”
But I agree that the actual writing leaves a lot to be desired. The pilot episode gives us all those nifty characters but, aside, from their appearance (and JFK’s outrageous Hyannis accent), you can’t see any real connection to their antecedents…or tell if any of them is actually sporting any of their cloneparents’ personalities or talents.
Aside from the fact that the final punchline DID involve a painting by the teenage Vincent Van Gogh…
. . . it is fun to see Lincoln and Cleopatra making out . . . They seem to be trying for some actual relationship stuff; the Lincoln/Gandhi/Joan trio and all.
I just can’t figure out how a middle-aged Eleanor Roosevelt can be their gym teacher if they were all cloned 16 years ago. And I can’t understand a word their principal says—the sheep/teacher sounds a lot like Don Knotts. Wonder if he does the v/o?
Now the clones are sexy teens now,
they’re gonna make it if they try.
Loving, learning, sharing, judging,
time to laugh, shiver, and cry,
Clone High, Clone High*
We’ve had that series in Canada for a few months now. Some episodes are better than others. On balance I would call it pretty good.
I like Marie Curie too…exposure to radium screwed up her genes, so her clone is a horrific freak.
I understand that Thomas Edison will be appearing in future episodes as a Dungeons-and-Dragons-obsessed technogeek, complete with a wicked crush on Joan of Arc. I wish they’d picked Nikola Tesla instead; he could have had a hilarious Mittleuropean accent.
Okay, now I’m going to have to watch. And may I just say that it totally blows my image of Eve, knowing that she watches MTV. It just so doesn’t go with long gloves and lorgnettes.
Same reason it took nearly 20 years for Lil’ Abner to get it on with Daisy Mae, I guess. Dramatic tension.
Also it gives the writers the opportunity to give her some really funny lines.
Joan: I want to start dating this year.
Abe: Me, too. I wanna date Cleo.
Joan: Don’t you think you should date, like, a good friend?
Abe: No.
Joan: Like, somebody you’ve always taken for granted?
Abe: No, I’m gonna date Cleo.
Joan: You know, dating a friend would be…
Abe: Cleo.
I saw a little of it and didn’t see the point. I agree with the person who said that the clones didn’t seem to have any need to be clones. The Cleopatra is just your standard “hot chick” from any random teen show - there’s nothing gained by her being a clone of Cleopatra. At least, nothing that I saw.
Well, occasionally the fact that they are clones comes up. Like Ghandi says something like,
“I may be an advocate for peace, but I can still PAR-TAY!!!”
Also there’s the whole scene with Abe saying that he hates theatre’s, but doesn’t know why. Meanwhile there is a painting of the original Abe getting shot by John Wilks-Booth in Ford’s theatre in the background.
