The much-debated event occurred last night - it’s up on iPlayer, I’m sure bits will be up on YouTube shortly. For those unfamiliar, the BNP are an extreme right-wing party, of the National Front/BUF variety who have recently got their leader elected to the European Parliament. Question Time is a programme which…well, questions MPs and others on issues of the day.
Personally I am glad the BBC allowed it. He came across as a total fool, although it’s a shame the other guests weren’t a bit sharper, frankly.
A few choice quotes (paraphrased, from memory);
“Do you deny the holocaust?”
“I have never been convicted of holocaust denial.”
[on being accused of consorting with Klan members]
“They’re the non-violent branch.”
And his hilarious discussion on “English Aboriginals.” Again, a shame nobody really took him to task on this. Overall I think it’s been a total disaster for the BNP, despite concerns about ‘the oxygen of publicity’.
