Anyone watching Shipwrecked: Battle of the Islands on BBC?

I just ran across it, but missed most of the show. Luckily, they’re going to replay it later. According the website it airs at 9PM EST. Here on the West Coast, it aired at 6, but will replay at 10PM.

I’m not sure if it’s the first episode or second they’re on.

Anyway, it looks interesting. It’s sort of an anti-Survivor. There are two teams of generally beautiful people, with each team assigned to an island. Each week they introduce a new castaway, and it’s up to the teams to (gasp!) be nice and convince the new castaway to join them on their island. At the end of five months, whichever team has the most members gets the cash prize. So you want the most people, but not too many people as the cash prize gets divided among the winning island’s castaways.

Neat idea. I’ve set my DVR for it.

Anyone else?

I watched it last week, but haven’t seen last night’s episode yet. TiVo’s got it waiting for me.

I found it to be very enjoyable, and much more low-key than what I expected (which was basically a “Survivor: UK Version”).

The show is pretty low-key compared to your average American reality show, but I can see some drama beginning as they get increasingly sick of each other. There was already a little drama in last night’s episode.

One nice thing is they’re pretty well stocked with tools, materials, food, water, soap, razors, even beer it seems. So they won’t be getting all skanky like on Survivor.

The prize money really isn’t all that great though, and I could see some of these babies wanting to go home. Five months on a tropical island sounds great to me, but it probably would get old fast if I couldn’t stand who I was forced to be with.

I caught on during the first episode that they had some sort of food supply going, but in last night’s ep when they showed the Sharks’ garbage bag, I was taken aback by all the empty bottles and cans.
And the one girl shaving her underarms…This show is virtually nothing like Survivor!

The prize is pretty meager, isn’t it? If the populations become un-balanced, the majority team would be wise to drive away new recruits for a week here, a week there, in an effort to split the prize between fewer people.

That Geoff guy would drive me bat-shit within the first two days. No way could I stand five months with him.

Was Geoff the goatee guy who hid the matches? He struck me as a little “out there” the way he was giggling and laughing and generally being strangely pleased with himself. OTOH, if I were stuck with people who bored me to tears, I might start messing with them too. It’s not like they can vote him off. They’re stuck with him. The BBC website says he has ADD.

This could get fun if one team gets a decided majority and has to start being mean to keep new castaways from joining them. Geoff would be good at scaring people away.
