Anyone who uses wheresgeorge.com?

Last Friday at the supermarket I received a one dollar bill in my change which was stamped with the www.wheresgeorge.com web site. I’ve probably received a dozen or so dollar bills marked with this message on it. After forgetting to do it a each time such a bill has fallen into my hands I decided to sign up and enter in the information from my bill. I was hoping to see that perhaps it had traveled all around the country and back, but I was only the first to update its whereabouts since it was listed, which was 279 days ago. The person who registered this bill lives in Boise, a mere 12 miles away (according to the site, it’s really not quite that far) from where I live.

Who else uses this site? Do you regularly track where your money is going, literally going, that is? How often do you put WG-marked bills out into circulation? What’s the highest denomination you have stamped or have received? Any good stories on where your bills have been?

I’d actually forgotten about this site. Thanks for reminding me! I went back and checked on the one and only bill I entered into the site (I didn’t register the bill, only updated when I recieved it). I got the dollar bill in July '02 in Las Vegas, at the Stratosphere Casino after playing blackjack. I brought the bill back here to L.A., and spent it at a Ralphs grocery store. I got all excited when you reminded me about this site, 'cause I wanted to see what had happened to the bill. Alas, no one has updated anything about it.

I got my first wheresgeorge bill about four or five months ago. I was the first to register it. Only a few days ago I received an email saying that someone else had posted about that bill. It had travelled only 35 miles. Dammit.

When I go to Europe I think that I will put some into currency exchange just to see what becomes of it.

I love wheresgeorge! I have entered about $200 worth of currency, but I’ve only got two updates on my bills. One had stayed within the state, and the other was still in the state that I had spent it. I think that if you go to the faqs, it actually says that bills (dollar bills especially) tend not to go too far or too fast.

I enter bills from time to time. I have almost 200 “hits” but nothing very interesting. Most of them haven’t made it out of state, except for the ones that I’ve taken on vacation and spent somewhere.

I recently found 4 of them, on different days, in change from different places. I’ll enter them soon.

I manage a gas station on an interstate highway. I have all my cashiers set aside any WG bills they find. I enter them and then send them on their way.

The only extraordinary thing that ever happened was that a bill came back to our station. WG told me I had already entered the bill, and a check of my bill history showed an entry from a couple of weeks prior.

I’ve only found one…I entered it, then went out and spent it. No one else has entered it after me though.

I looked at the site after finding a WG bill. It seemed like an address farm, which would generate junk mail. I didn’t tell 'em anything.
