Hello all
I work for a large bank… and I must say… I’m hating it more and more each day!
I’m in a sales position, so it involves alot of talking. I have no issue with this cause since its a comission job I get as much as I work for right??
WRONG!
They could careless if your making money… they want you to push all sorts of stupid products onto customers that won’t benefit them and wont pay me out either!!!
It seems all banks are caring less and less for their employees… I guess I should be grateful I didnt get dropped on the last wave of lay offs…
slight rant
Commission sales, no matter where you are, is going to be that way. With a bank, you’re hawking ID theft stuff, at a car dealership, you need to upsell junk like paint “protection” and undercoating, and with a department store, you’re pushing extended warranties.
The one common theme is that the average customer does not need any of it.
I work at a large investment bank; that’s not quite the same thing, though.
Twenty year veteran of big Australian Banks here.
Luckily for me, the last six I’ve been out of the sales side, as a Risk Analyst, and been working for one of the smaller banks, who actually do give a crap about their employees.
I know Australian banks have a much higher level of government oversight and controls, but a commission only role in a Bank? Holy Crap. Sure, the Sales guys in banking over here have targets and receive bonuses and some small commissions on their sales but a I don’t think a commission-only role would ever fly over here.
You have my commiserations though. I wound up hating my job when I was focused on Business Development and Sales.
I forgot to say that I work for one of the top five largest banks in the US. Life is good where I’m at, but that is about as far as possible from anything having to do with money or customers.
