Anything interesting happen in 1972?

Aha! The plot thickens!

My Father died in August.

Well jeez, Watergate happened (as opposed to being uncovered), Nixon was re-elected. Just little things like that.

And moe importantly The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders From Mars was released.

1972: the year I ceased to be an only child.

June of 1972–Andreas Baader, Ulrike Meinhof, and several other members of the Baader Meinhof group were arrested.

July 1972–my grandmother died.

Nov 6 1972–Billy Murcia of the New York Dolls died of a drug overdose.

For part of that year my family lived in Madison, WI. I hated it except for my pet chipmunk, who lived in the woodpile and took food from my hand.

Cool.

My GF, at the wheel of a Dodge Charger, had a dispute over territory w/ a large palm tree. The palm won and I almost bought the farm. I spent a couple weeks in hospital and a month in a wheelchair. And this was after surviving three tours in VN.

I learned to read.

Big events that happened in 1972:

The Watergate break-in
“Bloody Sunday” in Northern Ireland
The US withdrawal from Vietnam
The US recognized the People’s Republic of China
The Munich Olympic massacre
The USSC outlawed the death penalty
The last landing on the moon
Bangladesh declared independance
Egypt expelled its Soviet military advisors
HBO launched the first paid cable television network

April 1972, my wife and I were married. So Coral Anniversary coming up next year.

I turned 16 and received my driver’s license.

I think someone went to the Marianas trench for 20 minutes.

Hey! Me too!

Alonzo I loved it. I even stole it.

I also graduated from high school. Different high school and state than FCM and Twicks. I also voted for the first time in the 1972 presidential election.

Twin, you must have started school a year earlier than I did! In our district a kid could start kindergarten when they were four, if they would be five by January 1. But it wasn’t required, so my folks waited and sent me to school next year. So basically I was the oldest in the class, rather than the youngest!

IMDB’s most popular 1972 movie titles:

I would rank The Godfather as among the top ten films ever.

“Don’t change Dicks in the middle of a screw! Vote for Nixon in '72.”

Meh. High School. :stuck_out_tongue:

Ezra Pound died. I turned a year old.

Cowboy Bill Watts won the Tri-State Version of the North American Heavyweight Title from The Stomper in July 0f 1972.

Dory Funk, Jr. was the NWA World Heavyweight Champion that year.
