Anything interesting happen in 1972?

Me too. Pioneer High, to be more specific.

My two favorite albums from that year:"School’s Out"and “Machine Head”.

They had a pretty good football team in Miami that year…

Nope – graduated a year early.

Long story.

I was conceived.

I was cutting the soles off my shoes.

I didn’t actually climb up a tree or learn to play the flute until 1973.

In other sports news, the 1972 Lakers won 33 straight games, which is still a NBA record, and won 69 games during the regular season, which set a record which lasted until 1996 Cite

The Oakland A’s won the first of 3 straight World Series titles, beating the Cincinnati Reds in an exciting 7 game series.

Nixon won re-election.

If you would like to know more about the campaign you can read Fear and Loathing on the Campaign Trail '72 by Hunter S. Thompson.
I finished second grade that year and I had my first real crush on Thresa A. I only knew her that school year and I still wonder about her today. I actually got into a fight with another boy over her. I didn’t start it, but I finished it, and in far better shape than he did. The sight of her in her Blue Bird uniform thrilled me to my soul. Her red hair, blue eyes, pale skin and freckles are still the height of beauty in my book.

No she hasn’t registered with Classmates for our elementary school.

(sigh)

Hurricane Agnes. Early June. Rained for like 5 days straight. The Potomac rose about 30 feet. Up over the tow path and filling the C&O canal and then up the banks too.

72…72…

I was definitely around then, but I am very sorry, I got nothing. I think I was in a regional tennis tournament…I think I had a 1969 Torino 428 Cobra Jet…The engine self-destructed, I do know that much…People tell me that I met my wife during that period…

Hell, I got nuthin’

1972 brought with it the worlds first digital, LED display, watch: The Pulsar.

I was conceived in November of 72.

I showed up!
August 27.

I was just remarking the other day on how I have been telling people that I’m a year older than I actually am by accident. I’m going to be 34 this year. I am not currently 34.
:smack:

The Rapid City flash flood happened on June 10, 1972. It killed 238 peopleand caused $165 million in dammage.
Perhaps due to the the proximity of Ellsworth Air Force Base, and lack of major waterway which might be expected to flood, it is rumored to have been caused by cloud seeding, and credited with ending weather manipulation programs and studies then in progress. Even if it were not caused by deliberately seeding, we have since found that contrails crossing each other can accidentally seed clouds so it may be that planes from Ellsworth Air Force Base did contribute to the cause of the flood.

Dan Blocker died.

I turned 2.
My brother turned 5.
My mom turned 27, my dad 28.
Kmart (formerly Kresge’s) moved its headquarters from Detroit to Troy, Michigan. Coleman Young was elected mayor of Detroit for the first time; he would be re-elected 4 times, for no good reason I can divine.

1972 stuff Draelin may not have considered “interesting”:
(source: Wikipedia)

East Pakistan becomes Bangladesh.
The HP-35, the first handheld scientific calculator, is introduced (price $395).
Ceylon becomes Sri Lanka.
America gets its first woman rabbi, the FBI its first women agents, Dartmouth its first women students, and the Boston Marathon its first women runners.
MASH* and Bob Barker’s Price is Right debut on CBS.
Gov. George Wallace of Alabama is shot and paralyzed during a Presidential campaign stop.
Recombinant DNA is discovered.
Marijuana becomes legal in the Netherlands.
Steve Jobs graduates high school in Cupertino, CA.
Swedish supergroup ABBA begins.

Among 1972 babies are Ben Affleck, Gwyneth Paltrow, Cameron Diaz, Jennifer Garner, Jude Law, and Eminem.
Leaving the scene that year are J. Edgar Hoover, Maurice Chevalier, Walter Winchell, the Duke of Windsor (Edward VIII), Harry S Truman, and M.C. Escher.

Nah, it wasn’t that I thought it uninteresting, it was that I wanted first post.

I’d just like to wish this thread a happy fourth birthday on July 22nd.

And I still can’t recall anything exciting happening in 1972.

Very funny you should ask. I recently read the book(s) about the 1972 crash of a plane carrying a Uruguayan rugby team in the Andes, and what the survivors endured and how they managed to get rescued. Highly recommended !

Loggins and Messina album was released in 1972. Your Mama Don’t Dance reached #4 in the charts.

IMHO this was one of their best albums

here they are singing Mama Don’t Dance on the Midnight Special tv appearance. Great stuff!
