anyway to bookmark a search?

Is there anyway to bookmark a search? I would like to have a bookmark with a link to all the threads I’ve posted to from the past week or two. On the old board it was possible, but now after bookmarking search results, after a couple of days the link is no longer effective.

Any ideas?

In the old days, the search URLs were a little more intuitive. You could look at the link and figure out what you were searching for.

Now the searches seem to be assigned a search ID number that probably relates back to a temporary variable stored in the database which contains the actual search parameters. I imagine these variables expire after a day or two which might explain why your links stop working. I’m not sure if there’s still a way to hard-code the URL to use the old-style search, but that’s the only way I can think of to do this.

I would recommend bookmarking the Search Page and choosing the appropriate date range when you want to do a search.

Why not just bookmark your profile page ( http://boards.straightdope.com/sdmb/member.php?s=&action=getinfo&userid=220 ), open that each time and click the “Search for all posts by this user” link, which will display your posts from the most recent, back? Seems the easiest way to me, without having to change dates or other parameters each time.

Try this.

  1. right-click the “search” button at the bottom of your post.

  2. select “add to favorites” for MSIE or “add bookmark” for Netscape 4.72 from the pop-up menu.

You could bookmark the search as it appears under your post, but that will search by default for all dates / all fora. I would recommend instead bookmarking the search page and entering your username - that way you can pick an appropriate date range.
