Finding old threads

A while back I was dismayed to find out that we weren’t able to search for something past a few years, and then in this thread about board feature requests, someone posts a link to the archives of which I was unaware. However, this list seems all but useless to find something because of a lack of search, and the numbers next to the threads don’t correspond to the thread ID that I would have in an old bookmark.

For example, one of my old favorites was uncle rue story guy thread id 81611. I found that thread by searching for all posts by Rue Deday, and then going through his long list of postings to find it. Short of doing that, how would someone be able to find what they are looking for? Is there some sort of formula I could use for my other old bookmarks? (such as 81611 minus A equals thread number in archive)

I don’t think you can reliably search based on keywords. You’ll get a lot, but you can also miss a lot. Some threads that have those keywords just won’t show up. Why, I don’t know, and I don’t think I’ve seen answered.

However, if you remember a poster’s name in the thread you can find it, unless it’s one that goes past the 30-page limit. I’ve found “missing threads” where keywords failed, but I remember a poster in the thread.
