The zombie apocalypse thread got me thinking. Would you survie any apocalypse (zombie or nonzombie)? Please don’t use Dope logic of “You just have to be fitter than someone else”. If a zombie, for example, was chasing you, would YOU be able to surive? So, honestly, the end of the world is now. How are you faring?
I wouldn’t survive. The minute the modern live turns to shit, I’m getting a gun and offing myself.
Would I want to survive? Simple survival for the sake of survival is not an option for me.
What would I be surviving into? If the next 0-40 yrs of life would be a constant struggle, full of brutality and savagery, don’t know if I’d be much interested in hanging around for it.
On the other hand, if it was just a global die off, and there were safe, not too unpleasant places where I could live a life of comfortable, but challanging days… who knows.
Knowledge and materially I am fairly well equipped. I know bush craft fairly well, and don’t need no MRE’s and such. If needed, and I had a chance, a quick trip to my garage could get me fairly well equipped to deal with most senarios.
5)Medically… yeeks. I have arthritus, and a few other conditions that modern medicine alieviates. none of them would kill me out right, but without modern medicine and treatment, as I said “yeeks!”
Would I be alone, or would I have company? Good company that I love and trust?
7)Would I get bored?
All in all, I could do it, but would I want to…
Oh yeah! I’m packing baby! And I’m backed up too. I can hardly wait!
All you have to remember is that when the gun runs out of bullets, you don’t throw it down and look for another one, you just reload that one. This is where all the movies go wrong.
I was always the kid in dodgeball that lasted until the end. Somehow I would give it my best, I mean, why not? Maybe in a couple years I would be living in some nice village and be the local candlemaker or something.
I know 23 different routes to get to a Costco, and I know how to shut those metal gates. If you want to survive, bring some applejack or Tully’s and I might let you in.
OMG! I totally regret wanting to kill myself when zombies overtake the world. I NEVER knew there was someone who knew 23 ways to get to ONE location. That’s a useful skill.
(Because zombies would never find their way to your costco. :dubious:)
You obviously have never been to a Costco. Tall thick concrete and steel walls and a single front entrance with a large cage door that no zombie could possibly get through but is easy enough to shoot through. A roof large enough to land a helicopter on, and enough supplies to both live on for an extended period of time in comfort and trade for goods from other survivors.
What have you got, bucky, besides suicidal tendencies?
Since the zombies can’t get in to your precious costco. What about if a thousand of them swarm around it? Make it impossible to get in. How are you surviving? The lucky people who were already in there before this happened locked you out. How are you surviving? What skills do you have besides costco?
There would be no reason( and no way) for thousands of zombies to surround Costco before I could get there, and I have goods and skills that people already inside will want that they don’t already have. You think I’m joking, but I can’t think of a better place to head for if you plan on surviving.
No, I’m through. It seems to offend you that I’m not going to panic and give up-maybe you should start a thread titled “In case of disaster, we should all give up!” in MPSIMS, instead of starting this one in IMHO supposedly asking for different views from your own.
Now, I’m curious. Why won’t you answer my question? I think you’re upset with me because I don’t think it’s realistic for anyone, not just you, to really think they’d survive an apocalypse with only one plan, even if it’s a well thought out one.
I’ll answer myself. Zombies are my front door. I scream in pain until I die.
A short story in “The New Dead”, an anthology of zombie stories, points out the obvious: in a world in which almost everyone is dead, it’s all but certain you’d be one of them.
That’s the current logic? I’d think the best plan is to have a practical skill.
I know a place with fairly few people - more need for skills, less competition for resources - but all the major stores.
I’d plan to get up there, fall in with some nice reasonable people, shoot the first asshole who declares themselves king - gaining the gratitude of everyone else - and live off the remnants of the old world for the rest of my days.
The people who survive the apocolypse are not necessarily strong or smart or fast, they’re just determined and lucky. I think I would have a fair shot.
