I’d say that all by itself, admitting to being addicted to chewing tobacco would eliminate any chance of a candidate becoming the winner.
The Donald sees his troops as representing him. Is he going to go with the image of someone who looks like a cow chewing his cud? Who tends to drool slimy brown saliva? Is always looking around for a place to spit the nasty juice out?
Ick. Ick. Ick.
Chris’s answer should have been along the lines of, “No, Mr. Trump, it’s not an addiction. It’s just a bad habit I used to indulge in now and then. Last night, after XXXX pointed out how inappropriate it looked for a businessman, I thought it over and I’ve quit.”
And then he has to coldturkey it for the remainder of the competition, of course, but I think he’d get points from Trump for being able to quit cold.
Alright, I’m going to admit that I felt sorry for Audrey.
She’s immature, even for a 22-year-old. Too emotional, too abrasive. However, I could see that she really really trying to be good as PM. She made a number of mistakes, but her failure wasn’t any more horrible than past losing PMs IMHOs.
She didn’t sit down with the marketing/promotions people and at least help them brainstorm ideas.
She shouldn’t have put John in such a critical position.
She should have owned responsibility in the boardroom. The flailing comment about organizing “leaders” was embarrassing.
She should NOT have brought her biggest ally into the boardroom.
She should NOT have mentioned John’s crack about her beauty in front of Trump. (And I wish Trump had not said anything about her being pretty as he was firing her. It was obvious the girl wanted to be taken seriously, so he was just making it worse).
Because of these mistakes, she deserved to be fired.
But I would have rejoiced if John had been fired instead. He wasn’t even TRYING to be helpful. He kept saying that she was setting him up, but I saw it in the complete reverse. It seemed like HE was setting HER up. Dressing up in a clown-suit is no fun, but if Trump had told him to put it on, he would have done it with no problem. And the “22-year-old girl” stuff was entirely condescending. It would have been sweet if Audrey had been able to stick up for herself better in the boardroom and got his ass fired. I hope the jerk doesn’t win this thing.
I disagree, also, with Gangster Octopus. John was willing to be led. If Audrey had taken a firm hand with him, he would have performed adequately. I believe he would have given her a chance. But the second he saw that she was dumping all responsibility on him because he’s the strongest player, he lost faith. I understand that.
Gotta disagree, as usual, with Mully’s brilliant, but misguided hatred of Erin. Despite her golfing inabilities, she wasn’t causing a scene, she wasn’t getting attention for her suckiness or her apologeticness, she wasn’t reveling in it… She seemed to be just trying to go along with the flow. That could be editing. I’m terrified to say she’s final four material, after Tara’s flameout. But I’ve gone through another episode liking her.
Yes, Tana’s starting to rock. That’s disturbing.
To give Audrey credit, when she was in the cab and mentioned Trump’s line about her beauty, I thought she was being ironical [sic]. She knew from the moment the $500 was read by smirky Carolyn (You go, sister!) that she would be fired. She didn’t go down dignified, but at least she was aware enough to know she was gone.
She didn’t look pretty (metaphorically) when she was drowning. But who does? Besides Bren? Man, can that guy take hits.
monstro, I had a lot of respect for Ashley the NotGeorge when he expressed disgust at John’s patronizing. I think Trump’ll be remembering that.
(Did anyone else HoYay when Audrey said she wanted to be like Angie? Just me? Okay)
John didn’t behave with class last night, but frankly, I can’t entirely blame him. I don’t think he would have deserved to be fired over that.
He sensed that Audrey was setting him up to fail. He also saw that Audrey refused to explain the extent to which responsibility was being delegated to him. Okay, so he could have handled that situation more delicately. Nevertheless, I think his (relative) lack of cooperation becomes more understandable in that regard.
What about the clown costume fiasco? Again, he could have handled that better, but I don’t blame him for feeling upset. You don’t just ask your entire team to put on greasepaint and funny wigs, and then expect them to be clowns. I daresay that the vast majority of people – even those who are otherwise quite bold – would feel humiliated by that.
So he didn’t behave with a great deal of class, but in this case, I don’t think it would have merited termination.
My wife has never logged on to the Straight Dope, but she REALLY hates everyone of you. Not only did I have my notepad out during Survivor for the Rich Ratings, but then during the middle of the Apprentice, I blurt out, “That will NOT help John’s position according to the Rancic/Perdue Corrollary!” She think’s I’m an ass! Once again, Damn You, Mullinator!
A few random thoughts:
*Mullinator redeems himself with the Wiggum crack, though. Me fail English? That’s unpossibile! I was thinking of the Damon Wayans-Prison Character from In Living Color. Poor, BEAUTIFUL Audrey was in over her head.
If only Magna would have done the circus theme. Bren woulda OWNED as a clown!
I don’t think Erin is trying to knock off Bren, Alex or John. I think she is trying to oust Melania!
Did everyone catch Craig’s silent answer to Carolyn’s question about does anyone respect Audrey? FUNNIEST MOMENT OF THE SEASON! Swimming with “funniosity.”
I’ll bet the kids also hated Audrey because she was great at minature golf!
The addiction thing was OH SO dramatic. I think Chris handled it well. Wasn’t sniveling or weak. Just admitted he had a habit. It’s a little grosser than smoking, but not by much.
I am not saing Audrey is a great leader or wasn’t long for this game. But compare how the marketing tasks were performed by both teams. Magna’s two marketing people thought about it, came up with an idea, tried to be decisive. I am sure they checked it off with the PM, but they came with something. Chris never did anything outside of print flyers and try half-assedly to hand them out. He was an arrogant ass who I lost a ton of respect for, who the whole time was trying to figure out how to assign blame on this task. Net Worth lost because they decided beforehand that they weren’t going to buy into anything Audrey wanted to do and they were not going to help her at all win this task.
She is naive and abrasive and not mangerial material, but she was not why they lost.
Does anybody else think that Chris could have gotten the boot if he was brought in? It is obvious he will not be in the game long, there is no wa he is winning after his chewing tobacco idiocy. I can easily see Trump saying, “Chris, you chewed tobacco in front of the kids? Who knows maybe you do that in front of some of my buiness associates. Audrey you had no control of your team, John you were trying to assign blame instead of trying to win the task, but Chris you’re fired.”
Maybe I’m sensitive to age issues. Angie’s young, to me, so I didn’t think she’d appreciate being described as “older”. “Mature” or “experienced” sound better.
Okay, Net Worth was surly – but some of the uncooperativeness was about her refusing to tell them what the hell she wanted them to do.
She insisted on being made PM this week – and then refused to provide guidance for the team when they asked for it. Yes, I may think one of my underlings “should” be able to complete a particular task on his or her own – but when he or she comes to me for advice, answers, priorities, whatever, I must respond to them, not just say “go figure it out yourself.” If I’m in a Socratic mode and want to make the person figure it out, I might ask some questions – “okay, the situation is A, B, and C, and we need result X – how do you think we should get from here to there?” – rather than provide detailed instructions, but I don’t just say “Hey, don’t bother me, you’re on your own.”
And this goes double for her since she demanded the leadership role.
I respectfully disagree. As twickster said, they had good reason to be surly. Moreover, if a leader cannot rally the respect of her team, then this strongly suggests that it’s because the leader does not command respect.
It could be the fault of the team members themselves, but in this case, I don’t think so. This team had performed admirably in previous tasks. We also saw how her lack of leadership caused the team’s lack of direction.
True, the blame does not rest entirely on her shoulders. She’s still a good part of the reason why they lost.
She’s doing well, but she also seems to be exhibiting a greater maturity, a greater all-around decency, even, than any of them.
Tana’s only bad moment that I can recall was her cloying performance as hotel receptionist. Oof.
John did exactly what Trump would have done. He knew his biggest enemy on the team and went for the throat, taking a bit of a risk in the process. There is no time on this series for subtle assassinations. I continue to insist that he is the de facto winner of this season, barring a huge screwup on his part. He’s savvy and insightful, with a good professional ethic. Most importantly, with a bit of grooming he can make Trump millions of dollars.
Re: Chris’s chew habit. Trump despises weakness in people (despite his own) and obviously sees this habit as not only distracting, but downright disgusting and unacceptable. Look for Chris to bite the dust at first op.
Poor Taudrey. She’s SO beautiful that people just hate her for it. John pegged her exactly right: “She is what she is…a 22-year old girl”.
Oh, and watch out for Tana. We may be looking at a sleeper there.
Right, because that broad generilazation is always true.
She is what she is because of the actions that led to her demise. Age should not be a deciding factor, lest it be the equivalent of a Poisoning the Well logical fallacy.
Don’t think that I’m defending Audrey; I think she’s an idiot. But John is not much better. He was throwing around logical fallacies in the board room as if they were candy on the 4th of July.
