Appropriate Commercial Songs

Reading New & Improved Scott’s thread on anti-American songs being used inappropriately started me thinking about songs in commercials that are exactly right.

Sure there are songs used that are just wrong. Car commercials seem to be the worse offenders: Thick as a Brick? Lord, Won’t You Buy Me a Mercedes Benz? London Calling? Sheesh!

There is only one commercial that I can think of that made good use of an old tune. NJ had a tax amnesty program a few years back. They used Blondie’s One Way or Another to illustrate what would happen to you if you didn’t take advantage of it.
Can anybody think of any more good song use in a commercial?

This is cheating a little, but…

I once saw a Canadian commercial for jeans that consisted entirely of views of comely, jean-clad rear ends. Meanwhile a chorus sang “Land of Hope and Glory.” But instead of singing the words, they sang “Bum bum bum bum bum bum bum…”

This isn’t a song, but I think the background of the orchestra warming up is so great with that Nike comercial of atheletes warming up. It maybe that after so many years playing in orchestras I LOVE that sound and that’s why I like it with the commercial so much.

VW tends to have really good music with their songs. Especially the one where everything on the street was in sync with the song.

As for bad choices, my favorite is Iggy Pop’s Lust for Life in a Carnival(?) Cruise Line commercial.

Well, since it was used in an ad for **Mercedes-BenzB] I don’t see how it could be inappropriate or wrong.
