Ah so here we are at zero hour. Actually I’m an hour before zero hour as I write this since win or lose at my new game it’s time to poison some wells. I expect quite a bit of laughing it off by a few parties (not just Meeko) and trying to play down these statements but it needs to be said. I also expect that just about everyone reading this post have drawn most of the same conclusions but it might open up a new perspective on things for a few.
Honestly at this point I doubt that anyone is going to attempt to block the threat. I worked out before doing it that there were four players emotionally invested enough in the game that they might put up resources to stop me and potentially push the weaker players into joining their efforts.
The problem for me was the game immediately broken in two before I was even awake on day one: on one side we have a faction of aggressive day traders and on the other the more cautious players who couldn’t dedicate that much time to the game. The value for players, especially early on in a limited information game such as this, is in controlling that information and my portfolio was all but wiped out by 4pm.
I thought I might try a coalition of the more quiet players but the aggressive players during the day could do end runs around me. A few psychological ploys worked but it didn’t recover nearly enough ground for me. An option opened up with Justin Credible’s assets since I could let players deplete themselves and take advantage of a chaotic marketplace. The auction rules that made it obvious that NAF was the only person who could win it and at virtually no cost to himself made it clear the game was over unless something dramatic happened.
At this point I suppose I need to say that I’m well aware of what rule 10 and rule 13 are. Really the only rule that was a complete mystery to me was 7 and that one’s only going to come out in the end.
So NAF would trade his toonie or pound perhaps with another coin or two and effectively double his resources. Even with a trading freeze against him (which would be hard to enforce since he could afford some very persuasive offers) he was just about guaranteed to carry the game. He and Ore were fighting for first anyway before hand but it wasn’t impossible to break them through other methods; now NAF holds all the cards.
When I play a game I don’t play for second place.
