April Foolishness Haggle. [Game in progress]

Holy Snap! Meeko Just went Metagame on JSG’s Ass.

You don’t need my permission to go to the pit for anything!!

Quick show of hands gang:

What should Meeko do with Rule 9 and JSG?

Open to any and all ideas for consideration.

Meeko, I’ve re-read and I still need you to do something.

Before you head to the pit, summarize why you are so pissed off at JSG. Don’t like the blow up?

Chrisk, This might be the one time in Haggle where my Words are stronger than my Actions.

I’m just planting seeds, Chris.

I suspect we have other players here to tend to the grounds.

Mahaloth:

I’m not going over to the Pit. I can’t control other players. *Like some players think they can. *

Im still in this game. Here and Now.

Whats up Mahaloth? Do I need to make a different offer to you?

No, I’m not going to tell him that he can’t make trades on rule 16, “Dropping” something that you own isn’t a part of game rules until the very end.

So my trade with Maha can still go through?

Isn’t that between the two of you?

Yes, it can, but I’m holding Rule 16 right now. It’s too important to the game and no one has offered me enough for it.

Is JSG quitting?

Now where have I heard THAT LINE before?
Oh yeah, with nearly every other rule in this game.

So where was I? Oh yes, not playing for second place.

To even stand a chance I needed a huge gain materiel and that wasn’t going to happen. I was stuck playing the car salesman game with Meeko and against someone who could put about five times as much effort and ego into it as I could that was a loser for me.

(Let me add something here; the one thing that I couldn’t fit into my picture with you Meeko was your sometimes inability to grasp metaphor and wordplay. It implied some things that I could take advantage of but I wasn’t sure if was part of your game or not. I suppose I could have done a study of your posts in other threads to get a grip on it but as I said I had neither the time nor inclination. So congratulations on that one victory.)

(And for the rest of you, watch as he completely misinterprets that previous aside. That was driving me nuts. I bet he’s still posting saying this is all about him…)

Of course Meeko and NAF gave me the inspiration. I was stuck playing the manipulating valuation game and I couldn’t win it. We were playing the same game, but I didn’t have to. I could play with another currency: fear.

I admitted right from the start that this was a long shot. It required NAF fearing that he could still lose. It required Ore, Meeko, and sinjin to be so emotionally invested in the game that they couldn’t let me do it. It required that the price be high enough to terrify everyone and low enough that people might pay me to bring me to parity with NAF. It required players who though the game could still be grabbed.

The original offer was the scary offer to let stew for a day among the day traders. The second was the relief one intended to convince people that it was bad but not as bad as they thought. It didn’t help that chrisk was downplaying my terror aspects though I don’t think it changed anything.

chrisk, I didn’t think I needed 10 resources to “be competitive”. It wasn’t about “being competitive”. I would have gained a significant advantage with four that might have let compete with NAF on a lower tier and put me above all of the other players (except maybe Ore… he was pretty close on a few things but I think it would have worked out). It also would have weakened my opponents. This is why my final real demand was four coins; the rules were worthless to me but they made my price seem higher without it actually being so.

Obviously the plan didn’t work. That happens some times when you go all in. If I had succeeded it would have been more interesting since I suspect we’d see a few more threats. We might still see those on a smaller scale. And I’m left shrugging my shoulders and walking away. I’m still convinced it was the right gamble to make but c’est la vie.

Well I have 0 resources. Since we both know that there will be a few negative scored players in the game at the end I won’t be last…

ETA: Ah, I thought dropping was an anytime thing. Well it can wait.

But Meeko, as you pointed out so many times the name of the game is “Haggle”. It’s all about controlling the other players.

JSG:

Two more things.

  1. I told you from the beginning that time was an asset to this game. If timing in haggle works as you think it does, I would be in first place, by far and away. I know I am not. I am not making a fuss about my placement in the game.

  2. Do yourself a Favor

Look at the last Haggle game. Look at post 511.

I have a strategy to this game. You should get one too. It doesn’t have to be my strategy, but you need some strategy. Whatever it is you are doing now, isn’t one.

And for the record, until and unless NAF accepts your offer, you have other resources, though you might not feel free to make other plans with them.

Then why offer everything to NAF? Why not someone else?

JSG:

I WON the last game of Haggle. Ok? I WON.

I do come into this game of Haggle in a different place than you do.

For someone who doesn’t like 2nd place, you think you would know this.

Ok.

JSG let something leak.

I will entertain offers for looks at rules that indicate negation.

Hit me up gang.

JSG: I know something you don’t know. Neener, neener, neener. You picked the wrong pony.
