April Fools Watch

Alright, April Fools Day is in a couple days and the internet always likes to have its fun with it. So what websites are you watching? What do you think will be pulled this year?

I’m personally watching Blizzard; they always have great pranks for their fans such as their traditional World of Warcraft “we’re adding a race/class/mechanic that would not work at all but still sounds cool.”

XKCD/QC/Dinosaur Comics had a fun one last year too where they switched their pages around, not the most exciting, but I’m curious what happens this year.

So what are you guys looking forward to?

Your local NPR station is always good for a sneaky report or two…

City of Heroes/Villains; they’ve had some nice ones. Last year it was “Visual Sounds”; they put up what looked like a standard promo for a new feature, claiming that they were going to replace the in game sounds with “visual sounds” like in a comic or the old Adam West Batman series. “Biff ! Pow ! FREEEEM !”

Not only did quite a few people buy into it ( including asking about it months later ), but quite a few thought it would be a great optional addition. “Freem !” especially has become a running joke in the in-game community. “In space, no one can hear you FREEM !”

There was one year when I was going down the road and heard a pseudo-car commercial on NPR. It was early and I was sort of zoning, but then I heard them offer a rebate for those buyers who opted in for the option for a flux capacitor.

Another year, I swear I heard them say something about the United States considering trade agreements to be opened with blah blah blah, but there were too many conditions within the accord to keep my interest. It was only when I heard that the Klingon Federation would not stand the dishonor faced in the opening remarks that I caught on.

I always look forward to the April Fool’s Day products on Thinkgeek.com. I still want an E-Z Bake oven that fits in a 5.25 inch drive bay.

I’m waiting for Fark.com to be taken over by guinea pigs, as it usually is on 4/1.

I’m thinking I may not even turn the computer on that day.
