Arafat And His Cronies Out To Ruin The Day (Again)

Yeah, be sure that you get Guinsastia’s permission before you post, Dude.

If you think that Krillan crossed some line with his OP, I disagree entirely.

It amazes me how many “free thinking” liberals favor censorship when someone is in opposition to their “correct” views.

Dissonance, are you being willfully obtuse regarding who was responsible for the Six Day War?

Where Arafat was born is debatable. He’s claimed he was born in the Gaza Strip, but it turns out he was probably born in Cairo. He grew up in Jerusalem, though.

And different dialects can make a different people, so long as the two groups of people consider themselves distinct.

I’m pretty damn sure he was raised in Egypt

Egyptians consider themselves distinct from Jordanians. This, in your mind, means they think of themselves as a completely different “people”. That’s not true. They both know and admit that they’re Arab, but just because one calls themselves Egyptian and another calls themselves Jordanian, doesn’t mean they both aren’t Arab. Japanese consider themselves distinct from Chinese, and they are, but that doesn’t mean they both aren’t Oriental. Do you understand now?

No not really. What exactly was your point? Who exactly was saying that Palestinians were not Arabs?

Your initial point seemed to be that Egyptians and Palestinians are not distinct “peoples” because they are all Arabs. Now you appear to be defending this by using as a comparison that Chinese and Japenese are not distinct peoples (even though this choice of comparison in no way meets the criteria you gave earlier). And I’m still not sure what the point of arguing this was anyway?

jjimm, what you see as advocating ethnic cleansing, I see as a pessimistic view of reality – a view that unfortunately may be accurate. After 55 years of attacks, no peace process betweeen the Palestinians and Israelis has come close to succeeding. AFAIK it’s a tragic fact that Palestinians are taught to hate Israel and to hate Jews. They have summer camps for children named after terrorists, preaching terrorism. Anti-semitic material is presented in their media. It’s hard to imagine what it would take to change the pervailing attitude to acceptance and cooperation. It’s also hard to imagine a Palestinian leadership that would create that change of attitude. You can’t blame those who see that as hopeless. **

Why not try to create some sort of grass roots “Palestinian-Israeli friendship” outreach programs? Hand out pro-semetic literature to counter the lies? Billboards and Public Service Announcements to help gradually sway attitudes?

There are Israeli-Palestinian friendship groups, but if you think that the underlying cause of the conflict is antisemtism or propaganda (the IDF do a better job creating hate among the Palestinians than any propgnda could ever do) then you are ignoring the central issues.

BTDT. well, not me personally, but there have been MANY of these groups - they generally garner some media interest, and gradually fade away.

And who will do the distributing? Nobody who wants to live very long. You do realize that the terrorist groups are known to assassinate people who are accused of “colaboration” with Israel, don’t you? And you remember what happened to a couple of JEWS who happened to lose their way and ended up in Ramallah a few years back (hint - remember the photo of the terrorist waving his bloodstained hands through the window of the police station? If not then this may refresh your memory - scroll about halfway down the page)
