Ok it was all in the topic. perfect
They didn’t have them for a while? That was the only item I ever got from Arby’s.
Ohh Yes I have been boycotting them for several years. ARBYs said they weren’t carrying for 4 years or so (epidemic likely) or whatever. But now they are going again, so; please everybody beg, beg, beg; now that they are back.
Good info to know, potato cakes were my go-to at Arby’s for 40 years. Little bit of salt and pepper and some Arby’s sauce on top and you’re good to go.
When they bring back the onion petals, you let me know.
I would literally pay homeless people to go buy some just to keep the sales numbers up.
Same here. There was nothing I liked at Arby’s except for the potato cake-things.
Which is to say I can’t remember the last time I was there.
Honestly, I like Dunkin Donuts hash brown rounds better.
Oh, good lord. Those are among the worst things potato-related I’ve ever eaten. Every savory breakfast item I’ve had there has been trash, which astounds me. I’m not sure if I’ve ever had an Arby’s potato cake, though.
Arby’s and McDonald’s are deep fried. Dunkin Donuts are baked (although maybe deep fried then frozen…not sure).
McDonald’s hash browns I used to like but somewhere in their cost-cutting zeal they went to cheaper and cheaper things. I now notice the oil and it actually makes me ill after I eat it. Not hospital ill but upset stomach ill. Soooo much worse than they used to be.
Dunkin does not do that to me.
Ah, that would explain a lot.
Also, the DD little potato cakes have a very, very short shelf-life after cooking. Within 15 minutes they are pretty good. If they have been sitting there for 20 minutes and then you eat them 10 minutes later they are complete shit.
The DD I went to always made them to order (probably because they learned they turn awful pretty fast).
I think McD and Arby’s have a longer life under heat lamps.
Upon reading this thread, I’ve decided on where to go for supper. I really missed them!
When I was a kid, Arby’s potato cakes and a jamocha shake were my fast food ultimate.
I don’t think I’ve tried them.
Nows my chance.
What’s a potato cake? Is it like a latke?
Deep-fried triangle of hash-brown basically. Very much like a thicker version of the McDonald’s breakfast hash-brown if you’ve had one of those.
I refuse to patronize Arby’s until they bring back both the original skin-on fries and the Arby-Q. The onion petals would be a nice bring-back as well.
I worked at an Arby’s back when they were still baked. The potato cakes, not the employees.
Much better baked.

Much better baked.
That’s the way I usually ate Arby’s!
The vast majority of Arby’s around here closed years ago. I think there’s one left in the Bay Area. Too bad, I really liked them. And if it’s true that they brought back potato cakes, I definitely miss them.
There’s another thread around here where I lament the loss of Arby’s potato cakes. I’ll go visit them tomorrow night, just to buy a few.
When I was studying Russian (back in the mid-1980’s) the class had some kind of party (it might have been May Day) and the professor brought in latkes (no, not Latkas, they were just relatives of the mechanic on Taxi). My impression of the food we sampled was that they were potatoes and onions diced and then pressed into a small, relatively thin and flat shape, and deep-fried. They were kind-of like a larger flattened version of a tater-tot. After the party, the professor’s assistant said she thought latkes were actually polish, rather than Russian.
