Archer dumping ISIS

Well this sucks.

I was really hoping that the ‘addressed’ it by having Lana be the only aware of the problem and everyone completely oblivious of world events. Or maybe everyone thinks she means the goddess Isis.

Lame, but at least the timing worked out fortuitously, since ISIS was already toast last season. From a viewer standpoint, this is pretty organic.

Still, lame.

I think it was a wise decision to dump the logo before things get even uglier IRL. A shame, but what can you do? Sometimes every decision is the wrong one on some level.

Sounds like some sorta Islamic warp core breach.

They could have made the search for a new name a running joke. The Kentralized Kinetic Krewe or North American Zynergy Institution.

Or the Undercover Agents Workplace

United Spy Agency?

I understand part of the employee health plan is still the distribution of Ayds.

International Secret Intelligence Librarians

“Only the president seems confused!”

Of course I had to buy this Archer t-shirt. Got to wear it in public exactly once. :smack:

Can’t say I’m surprised.

As someone who is blissfully ignorant of world events, when I was hearing more and more of ISIS I thought “wait, the thing in Archer is real??” Eventually I figured out that it wasn’t, but I can’t say I blame them

Why aren’t those long sleeve turtlenecks? In 4 shades of black?

I remember the TV series The Greatest American Hero. It was about a teacher who found a suit that gave him superpowers. The teacher’s name was Ralph Hinkley.

The first episode was broadcast on March 18, 1981. On March 30, 1981, John Hinckley tried to assassinate the president.

They quickly redubbed a bunch of the show’s dialogue so the other characters were calling him Ralph or Mr H.

Yup, I have that one, myself. Sigh.

I kind of think they could have made a lot of hay from the ISIS vs. ISIS/ISIL difference, by putting Archer and Lana in the thick of things, with hijinks galore.

Can’t you see Archer just deadpanning to some terrorists that yes, he’s part of ISIS?

Archer doesn’t even have a set time period. It’s foolish for them to react to current events. Woodhouse is a freaking WW1 veteran! They really should have just ignored this upstart band of desert marauders and continued their own thing.

In theory, yes. In practice, it’s probably a harder sell if terrorist-ISIS just beheaded some American that morning before the episode airs.

I don’t like it (in the petty sense that someone is changing my cartoon show) but I can’t fault the producers or FX for it.

Something tells me that the sort of person who digs Archer isn’t going to be overly sensitive about that kind of thing.

Others might: Facebook/Twitter protests, boycotts of FX, etc.

FX is a business, Archer is there to make FX (and its producers/staff) money and the trouble potentially saved by preemptively changing it is worth more than the benefits of not changing it.

From the sound of it, this wasn’t a capricious change. They’d been watching the real-life ISIS situation evolve and were hoping it would go away on its own. Instead it came to a head and so they ultimately made a decision.

Honestly, these days, sometimes I get the feeling that people who would be overly sensitive about that kind of thing would seek out programming by which to be offended; for validation, or for a fulcrum to lever the rest of the tribe towards their tabu.

And, as Jophiel notes, network suits are traditionally a cowardly and superstitious lot to begin with.
