The new FX animated show Archer debuted the other night with 2 episodes.
I thought it was a lot of fun. I almost didn’t bother to watch it because the promos made it seem like nothing but a string of sex jokes. and while it did have its share of those, it also had some funny, unique characters and some real wit.
and a slick visual style. I was quite happily surprised. Two of my recent faves were on FX – Shield and SAMCRO. So kudos from Lethal Babydoll to FX.
I had set the DVR to record the first episode, not realizing that they were running two episodes back to back. But it didn’t really matter, because I almost didn’t bother watching all of the first episode. I thought I’d like it from what I’d heard about it, but I didn’t care for the characters and found the dialog annoying.
I thought it was pretty funny, but certain elements of dialogue annoy me, as when two characters seem to be haing two completely different conversation with each other at the same time, talking over one another.
I really liked it. I like the animation style and I thought a lot of the “double dialog” the talking over eachother stuff was funny. I took it as the characters always purposely taking things the wrong away and trying to nicely insult eachother. I enjoyed the show, and cant wait for the restl
I liked it. The voice cast was great (the guy doing Archer sounds a lot like the guy who played Oswald on The Drew Carey Show, and Darkmatter on The Adventures of Buzz Lightyear). The show is a wicked sendup of James Bond and spy movies generally.
Not bad. I’m a little disappointed that unlike Frisky Dingo which had a strong serialized plot Archer seems to be going for an episodic structure. Hopefully they’ll get the soap opera antics going soon enough, otherwise I’m a bit skeptical the show can hold my interest an entire season.
I only heard about it from Aisha Tyler on Chelsea Lately. I think it is very funny with fresh characters as opposed to just rehashes of others. I like the fast-paced dialog even though I do miss at least one line every episode. The artwork of the show and even the titles are great, too. I do believe they made the right decision showing Training Day first, vs. Mole Hunt. Training Day eases you into the more raunchy references. I hope they keep making it.
Is anyone else here still watching this? I think it’s been getting better and better. In particular I like Cheryl’s bizarre fetishes and Krieger’s deranged insanity. It’s still been light on the world building, but the fact that the KGB is still around and that Cuba’s involved in the international spy game suggest that they’re taking the setting in an interesting direction.
It was pretty good. I like Frisky Dingo more, personally. Archer reminds me of a more adult, less absurd version of FD. I really love the animation style of both shows, for some reason it’s really visually appealing to me.
I haven’t missed an episode yet. Archer’s narcissism, and his casual cruelty to his long-suffering valet Wodehouse, is always entertaining. I think the funniest bit so far was when they were discussing the recent deaths of three field agents - turned out each of them had had their cover blown by “Duchess” calling them while drunk and trying to score, and revealing that they worked for ISIS.
Chief: “We need to make a diversity hire…”
Archer: “I vote hot Asian chick!”
