Did you see "Archer"?

Last night’s was comedy gold. Gold, baby - with the funniest bomb-disarming scene EVAH!

“I’d just as soon not go on the Hindenburg 2.0.”
“I’ll have you know my vulva is as smooth as a veal cutlet… with really bad timing.”
“It’s my crisis vest, Fatface.”
“That’s ‘M’ as in ‘Mancy.’”
“The serial number is five four seven B…” “Bravo.” “Thank you…”

I think it’s a funny show, and when you’re stuck in a hotel during the Olympics on a Thursday things are limited.

But it does seem like they try to hard, if that makes sense.

The writers really did their research when it comes to airships. Loved the line “Of course our share’s dropping! Who want’s a two day blimp ride to London, which is our only route?” And the constant reminders that the ships filled with “Naturally safe helium, which is nonflammable” and “It’s a rigid airship, not a blimp”. I love the society matron/head of spy agency. I kept thing “So that’s what Kitty Montgomery would be like as M”, but it’s actually the actress who played Lucille Bluth.

I completely lost it at Archers background “No Lana, the helium!” while she was discussing shooting him with the gay guy.

One of the funniest shows on TV right now! Its good that the show has a more conventional setting compared to other Adult Swim fair like Frisky Dingo, 2021, ATHF, Drinky Crow etc. even though I loved all those shows too. Most people are put off by those shows’ weirdness too much to see that its all about the character interaction and dialog, not the settings.

So far all the episodes have really worked. Stuff that gets set-up in the begining always pays off later, the way all the agents care about is one-uping each other, and mostly the way that Archer, although reasonably well-skilled at his craft, isn’t doing it for God & Country, but rather for self aggrandizing glory, booze and pussy!

“The bomber’s not gonna be Larry Luftwaffe over there. That’s 'way too obvious.”

I’ve been catching up, and that entire sequence had a brilliant curly-cue “Who’s On First” dynamic that was hilarious. And even when the dialogue is a little weak (or more often, simply gratuitous), the delivery really sells it. Great voice acting all around.

I actually, downloaded them all and have been watching from from the beginning.

Over all, a very funny show. Even the episodes that are pretty weak (the one with the dinner party), there are standout moments. Like the end, when we can’t see anything, and Mom is making everyone put a bullet into the corpse so they’re all in it together.

“If I wanted to be a grandmother, I’d scrape together all of your ‘accidents’ into a pile and knit it a onesie!”

“What does that even mean??!?”

And did everyone notice that Mom’s neighbor (where they dumped the corpse from the dinner party) is the same woman that she had bumped from the Excelsior?

Really, it’s almost like a superspy reimagining of Arrested Development. The crazy, ruthless old lady is feuding with the woman in the next apartment.

I’ve seen the first couple of episodes and I really like it. I heard Archer’s voice before but couldn’t place it until I realized it was Orpheus’s boss on The Venture Brothers.

Archer is also the guy who was the Devil in, “Lucy, Daughter of the Devil”

Did you notice in the finale, when Archer was naked on the table, his foot had a bullet hole scar? And also, when Lana shot him on the rigid air ship, he says, “In the same spot!”… a call back to when she shot him on the yacht a few eps before.

“Sploosh”

He was also Coach McGurk on Home Movies.

It annoyed me enough that I had to look him up, which is when I found out he was The Master on Venture Bros.

And then I laugh in my head at, “I can taste my own genitals but it’s totally worth it.”

-Joe

I thought you said “slack it off.”

Alright. I love this show I’ve seen all of the episodes many times… but I just watched Diversity Hire over again and the characters name is “Conway Stern”… but I could swear on anything that the first times I watched it he was named “Conrad Stern” am I just crazy?

Please help.

I downloaded the episode right after it aired, and mine says “Conway”.

But don’t worry, they made it pretty clear we’ll see him again. Then you get to hear it wrong again!

-Joe

I remember it as Conrad, too, but haven’t seen it since it first aired.

Mom: “All right, so we have to make a diversity hire…”
Archer: “Hot Asian chick!”

Love this show.

Any word on the next season yet? I was just wondering about that the other day, but I’m too lazy to find out for myself.

Coming back. 13 whole episodes, even.
