Archive questions

I can only go back as far as August 2001 in the GQ archives with my limited skills. At that point Mangetout already has like 28,000 posts. Is there any way I can read the archives from day one? Or is that day one?

On the main page of GQ it went back 2,000-some pages, and I clicked on the oldest one. I"m thinking maybe the number of posts by his name is actually Mangetout’s current number of posts? The software updates the number in the archives? Or have you guys been doing this longer than I realize?

On the net since '94. Been reading Cecil for years. Just found this board this year. Yeah, I’m a dumbass.

Edited to add I wouldn’t know how to search for an answer to this, so a link to the answer by someone in the know would suffice. Thanks in advance.

The server has space issues (a point over which much kvetching has occurred) and there is a routine that regularly archives older threads (the algorithm of which I do not know) with a hope that at some future date we might be able to restore the archives for examination by members.

There have been other threads on this topic posted in the About This Message Board Forum, (where you will find this thread has been moved).

Just search ATMB for “archiv*”.

It isn’t day one but it is for the search function. This board goes back to late 1999 although there was one on AOL before that. You can’t go back further than that so I can’t see my early post for example (maybe for the best). People’s post counts always display the current count in threads even if you search back to early ones. They aren’t stamped and you can’t see the post count someone was at when they made the post.

I can’t add much to what the others have said, but I wanted to point out that he currently has like 28,000 posts. If you go back and look at your own posts, even the first, it’ll show your current count, not what it was at that time.
