Are all movies named after a hit pop song terrible?

I’ve seen the claim that Tampico was named after the Stan Kenton hit, and that film has its’ fans.

If I recall correctly, the film is named for the song but the song is on the film’s soundtrack and was a much bigger hit when tied to the film than it had been on its original release a few years earlier.

That Thing You Do! is a great movie, but I’m not sure it counts.

Ah, they’re 1960’s style double posts.

I didn’t see it, but Uptown Girls looked pretty horrible. In fact, it made me wonder exactly what the OP is wondering.

I think what happens is that a lot of time weak movies with a lame plots don’t have a good titles during production. So for release, they’ll slap on a moderately relevant song title for the movie title hoping that a association with a hit song may tempt more viewers.

Not to mention Fools Rush In (though I gather that not very many people went to see it.)

Satisfaction, starring Justine Bateman, which I remember seeing on tv a few years later as “Girls of Summer”, starring Julia Roberts. I remember being amazed at the number of cliches that could be packed into a single movie.

Mona Lisa was a great movie.

And, though I haven’t seen it myself, I’m told The Crying Game ain’t half bad either
